Anastasia's Table Runner/Topper Swap - Signup Closed

Anastasia’s Table Topper/Runner Swap

This Swap will close November 15[SUP]th[/SUP].
Welcome to my corner. This is my first swap and I look forward to sharing the experience with you. I have participated in many swaps on this forum and I enjoy them greatly. So let’s get to it.

A Table Topper would be any shape that would be a centerpiece; this should be a minimum size of 16" across the longest point. For instance, I made a hexagon table topper and it is 16" from one corner to another at its widest point and each of its six sides are 8".
A Table Runner should be a minimum size of 12"x28". Table runners are typically longer than they are wide.

How it works:
This is a secret swap. You will not know who has your name. The theme is winter.
Design and method will be up to the creator but since this is something that will be on a table and likely spilled on, make sure whatever you make is washable on at least a gentle cycle.
Please PM me with the following information by November 15[SUP]th[/SUP]. I will then match up names and get them returned to you by November 20[SUP]th[/SUP]. You will have until January 15[SUP]th[/SUP] to mail the finished product.

Board Name:
Real Name:
Address:
City:
State:
Zip:
Phone #: (this will not be given to your partner, this is for my use only in the event that a problem should arise)
Your décor colors:
Table Shape: Round, Square, Rectangle, Oval, etc

It is encouraged and acceptable to post pictures of fabric choices, progress, and finished pieces as the receiver will not know from whom they are receiving. I would like some lively conversation; someone has to keep me awake through midterms and finals.

Please notify me as soon as possible if you feel you cannot complete your obligation.

People who fail to follow-through and do not notify me will be banned from any of my future swaps (should there be any) and your name will be given to other swap hosts. Obviously, things happen in life and I will certainly consider that, but you must communicate.
****Please make sure to read the general rules that apply to all swaps here at the Quilting Board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm ****

So jump on board everyone and join the fun!

jaba 10-25-2012 07:36 PM

I'm in!

Question: When you say "Your decor colors" do you mean in my house? Or the colors I am going to use in the design.

nurse bonnie 10-26-2012 10:34 AM

I just sent you a pm to join in on this swap. I just can't wait to see what everyone is going to make.

pretty sure she means YOUR DECOR-THE PERSON FILLING OUT THAT LIL QUESTIONAIR and PM'ing it to her. then your secret swapper has an idea what colors to start with.
hope that helps.

Anastasia 10-26-2012 11:54 AM

Thanks cherrio, that's exactly what I meant. Doesn't mean they have to use those colors, since the theme is winter, but nice to know if it will clash horribly right? :)

If in this becomes a regular thing I might shorten the time frame but I specifically wanted this one to extend past the holidays because I know how busy we all get and I don't want anyone to get stiffed because someone got too busy to finish.

Anastasia 10-26-2012 12:05 PM

Just to clear up some possible confusion... Since not everyone celebrates Christmas, I chose Winter for a theme. And while for some people that may say oh, christmas colors of christmas design, which is perfectly fine.. for others it might mean blues and whites and icicles and cold. My point being, the interpretation of winter is for you to decide. So feel free to let it be anything that reminds you of winter. Hot chocolate, pie, snowmen, santa, etc. etc. Get it? I hope that helps get/keep your creative juices flowing.

Anastasia 10-26-2012 12:20 PM

Ok I forgot a pretty crucial piece of information in my original post, please forgive me.

*****PM me when you have sent, and also when you have received your table toppers*****

5. Nurse Bonnie
6. Cherrio

Off to a good start!

Elisabrat 10-26-2012 01:18 PM

I say since its AFter christmas we let Christmas not be one of the choices but something that works more towards your other options? unless you wouldnt mind a christmas tablerunner for next seasons use? then put that in your sign up. Just a thought.. I think of snow, winter weather cold blue skys frost, trees, stars lots of stars in the clear sky at night, new years :) peace.. winter is peaceful. It might mean ice skating to you or skiing!! I think how many colors are in a glacier.. that could be one great winter theme. Oh crud wandering mind here, I will probably end up doing winter in Bocca Ratton for someone and getting out my flip flop fabrics, beach stripes and mai tai glass fabric. could be fun too!

Anastasia 10-26-2012 01:41 PM

There better be a little umbrella in that mai tai and a big one next to some beach stripes :P Don't want any sunburn! Elisabrat, you're such a tyrant... not letting Christmas be an option. Geez you grinch.

Elisabrat 10-26-2012 02:14 PM

Your a MEAN ONE MR. GRINCH, yuppers that is my song, even have the big caboose just like he did and skinny arms! I didnt say its not an option its just two weeks late thats all :) my sis doesnt take her tree down til Feb it seems so maybe your right. Not everyone ends the holiday when its over! LOL I was thinking of that santa on the beach fabric when I wrote that.. why I have no idea. I still think of winter as cold silent and breathtaking :) which of course will be my tablerunner unless someone wants beach and mai tais and i get one too! yum that sounds good today. lol shes a mean one.. Mrs. Grinch..

Tam...Moo 10-26-2012 02:57 PM

I have never made a table runner and I can't wait. Count me in.

QuilterMomma 10-27-2012 09:08 AM

Let me see on this if I have fabric on hand. Don't want to jump if can't have the right tools to play.

Vanogay 10-27-2012 09:10 AM

Ana, sent PM. I'm in for this. Winter?? Got me thinking - none of the above mentioned really lit my fires up. I'm going down to start looking through my stash for something that might even resemble winter thoughts/colors/notions/whatevers. Glad to see some old friends already signed up here. We'll have fun chatting back and forth - but no bench sitting on this swap!!

jaba 10-27-2012 09:23 AM

Totally agree with you on that 1 vanogay. And qmomma in all those totes of fabric you have, you've got something for winter.

SulaBug 10-27-2012 10:49 AM

Silly question!! :D Do we make both a table topper & a table runner, or just one of them? This sounds like it would be a lot of fun to do!!
:D :D :D :D

wordpaintervs 10-27-2012 11:31 AM

Granny would love to join you in this, but I'm not good enough at what is needed here. Good luck sweetie. Love to see the results of it all.

Today is my 40th anniversary

Anastasia 10-27-2012 12:09 PM

Grammy, happy anniversary!!

Sulabug, there are a couple with 2 tables that probably won't mind if you made them two :) But only one is required. Sorry that wasn't clear but I appreciate this helpful feedback.

No bench sitting. I don't like people on my lawn! jk. Sit in the house on a cushy couch drinking tea or cocoa and eating cookies or whatever.

So Here is the updated players list

1. Jaba
2. Elisabrat
3. VJC
4. TheMamaHauser

BTW, I got 38/40 on my math midterm. Yay me.

jaba 10-27-2012 03:59 PM

wordpaintervs that's the way you learn. Lots of free patterns out there for table runners and tablemats. Doesn't have to be complicated, sometimes simple is very nice and relaxing to the soul. Come join us, there isn't any pressure and it'll give you a start to your learning process. I'd swap with you, trust me I remember when I started and quilting is alot different than sewing clothing. ask me how I know? You gotta' start somewhere, new swap on the board, new to quilting, new challenge for you. No excuse, sign up now missy!!!
You bet Sulabug, you can make me 2. I have 2 different table types so put down both. A runner fits better in my dining room and a mat fits better in my kitchen. Kept thinking I was going to get a headstart on this and decided I better wait and see my partner's table size. But for me either and or. Don't see your name on that permanent list yet either, hurry hurry!!!!

Anastasia 10-27-2012 04:18 PM

Heheh. Yes. You could even go find one of those gigantic blocks 16"+ and just make one, do a birthing method and stitch in the ditch. :)

TheMamaHauser 10-27-2012 05:06 PM

"Birthing method"... wow. That took me a good 3 minutes to figure out what on earth you meant. And a few of the first ideas I came up with were NOT quilting-related!

I will probably stitch in the ditch unless The Six arrives before then. I can always keep my fingers crossed.

Anastasia 10-27-2012 05:18 PM

Teee hee Ok.. so no one else gets horrified with mental images, it's where you put the fabrics right side together, with batting on the bottom (or top, whatever), sew around the outside leaving a spot to turn, clip corners, trim batting close to the seam, turn inside out. Tada, you birthed a table runner/topper :D
It's what I did with this hexagon. I don't know why. I originally planned it that way because I was expecting to use a cord trim that had a flange but the cord trim I found does not. *sigh*

marytoddliz 10-27-2012 06:52 PM

LMAO... I am with you kelly lots of things came to mind Not quilt related! I am watching TV SF kicking Detroit in Game 3... OK I can't help it I am sports minded girl! Don't particularly like the SF Giants but they are a Calif team so gotta cheer the home team.

I think this swap is going to be awesome! Can't wait to see who you put me with! The name Hot Toddy has been used on me before (My name used to be Mary Todd, before I got married and inherited a mother in law with the same name so they called me Marybeth and it kinda stuck!)

So since the cruddy cold is history~ hopefully stays there~ the marathon plans are going ahead! So next Sunday! getting down to the wire now! This old lady will be running~

Anastasia 10-27-2012 07:39 PM

I'm a sprouted couch potato.. I RAN a couple blocks the other day. My shin muscles are still mad. hehe. I used to jog 5 miles a day back when I was married.

I'm going to let the cats pick the pairings.

nancia 10-27-2012 08:02 PM

i'm in! i'm sure i'll be done with all my quiltblocks by then! :)

kiffie2413 10-27-2012 08:38 PM

Okay, I saw this thread...thought, nope, you better get to all the other stuff you have started, etc...then I thought, I will just glance at this thread...then I found myself reading through it all the way, and so here I am signing up!!! I was a very sporadic mostly self taught (excluding the little bit my grandma showed me waaaay back when I was a young girl) hand quilter until about 2 years ago when I happened upon a great lqs with a fab group of gals...they all machine quilt, and while they "ribbed" me about doing everything by hand, they were very accepting...long story short, I started doing some machine quilting, and love it, too...the only thing I am noticing is I "chicken out" when it comes to fmq...I have a great machine, a machine quilt frame (that dh set up for me and I still haven't used ). I have done some fmq on some 12-15 inch squares, but when it comes to anything larger I either do outline straight quilting, or I revert back to my hand quilting...so, this may be just the "kick in the pants" I need to actually do the fmq!! Sorry for the long post..but honest confession is good for the soul!
Kif

Anastasia 10-27-2012 08:53 PM

Hehe you swap addicts make me giggle :) Welcome to the Swap Addict Anonymous meeting. I also have a ton of things I need to finish up for the million swaps I'm in. And I also am a chicken to try the FMQ. hehe. I'm kinda paralyzed on this table topper I'm doing as a gift (that might be what prompted this whole thing). I have another one that I need to put borders and ends and backing on, also a gift, but I can SITD for that one, but I am pondering FMQ some pumpkins on it. I gotta try to get the one done and delivered by thanksgiving. The other one I need to get out the door by the 10th of Nov at the latest. The thanksgiving one is going to a non quilter so I'm not as concerned about that.

My mom is the quilter influence in my life, been doing it forever.. 40 years or something. She's done all hand quilting so that's what I know as well, but I'm inherently lazy (read above, sprouted couch potato) so I look into other methods but I just haven't had the chance to do anything yet.

nancia 10-27-2012 11:47 PM

i am in the process of fmq- meandering- a wall hanging for the wall hanging swap. i've done 2/3 and i feel like i've lost my rhythm ( hence, the 3 kids, lol) no seriously, last night i had a really good song running through my head, and today i'm songless! i hope to get it back soon!!

Anastasia 10-28-2012 03:42 AM

Am I old if I get that reference? Or just catholic?

nancia 10-28-2012 06:26 AM

i don't know, but i'm neither! i am, however, laughing! that's a trait that probably kept me from having any more! lol. (don't they use that any more?)

nancia 10-28-2012 06:30 AM

ok. i might be old.:p:D

stitchingpost 10-28-2012 07:30 AM

Sorry Ana I see why you ask for the info,,dummy me for got to put my colors,,,I don't why I thought it had to be in blues and whites
