Welcome to Quilting in the New Year Swap – August 2011

Sign up deadline: August 20, 2011

This is a swap that would enable you to be paired up with another ‘Quilting Pal’ and swap a quilted item that each has made. It can be either machine or hand quilted. The Quilting Pals would know who each other is and can chat about their projects throughout the whole month. Projects swapped do not need to be the same item - so you can make whatever you make best. This would just be for August 2011. You would be signing up for one month at a time.

Beginner quilters as well as experienced quilters are invited to join. Every attempt will be made to match you up with a quilter who is at the same level of experience. (If an experienced quilter would like to be matched with a beginner and to be his/her mentor, please let me know.)

If you are international, feel free to join!

If you are interested in joining, please send me a Private message with the following information.

Screen Name:
Real Name:
Address:
Level of Quilting Experience:
Can you mail international?
Type of Project you'd like to make:
Do you smoke or have in house Pets:
Allergies:

This form will be given to your swap partners. Partners may choose to exchange additional information about such things as color preferences, specific type of project, etc. Partners are reminded that this is a swap. Please avoid issuing too many specifications as though you were placing an order with a commercial business. The elements of mystery and surprise are at least half the fun.

The cost limit on this is to be $15 (USA) excluding postage.

Sign up will close August 20, 2011. The names will be paired up by August 21, 2011. Partners are responsible for keeping in touch during the month to keep each other updated on the progress of the project. Anyone not completing and sending projects - will be given a poor swap rating and not be able to participate in this swap in the future,

All of the standard rules that apply to swaps apply. The rules were updated on 8 Dec 2010, so please make sure to check them before signing up.

In addition:
Neither project will be sent out/exchanged until both are done. Partners will agree on a specific date on which each will put their package into the mail. Unless otherwise agreed by both partners, the projects should all be done and in the mail by Sept 30, 2011. You must notify coordinator when all items have been shipped and received so records can be updated.

dream56 08-09-2011 06:17 PM

How about 10 and one on the fence deciding. I wrote back telling her all the fun stuff we make. Come on ladies some folks just need that little encouragement.

lindyline 08-09-2011 06:22 PM

Oh come on in, we don't bite. And we do have a lot of fun along the way. "you know you want to" ( gravelly deep sexy voice)

BonniFeltz 08-09-2011 06:30 PM

We really ARE a good bunch. Don't mind Lindyline, just feed her something and she'll settle back down again. LOL.

lindyline 08-09-2011 06:33 PM

Hmmm yes it is coming up to lunchtime here. There could be some truth in what you're saying.
Seriously we love having company and we do have fun.

dream56 08-09-2011 06:55 PM

Yes - we are up to 12. Not bad for the first 2 days.

We love having everyone join us. You will find that not only do you get a really neat project made just for you - but most have been making great friendships along the way.

BonniFeltz 08-09-2011 06:59 PM

Yep Yep. My partners in the New Year Swap are still chatting with me. :) You get to chat with them during this whole month so that you get to know them. You work out something that is more personalized to you. You can tell them your colors, what you like or don't like....YOU get a choice in this. You work it out together. Remember you don't have to make the same thing as your partner either.

The items can be big or small. You work out the details with your partner.

And, if you get somebody like me or lindyline....you'll hints along the way. Teasers....to get those creative juices going. :)

Really 5 am. Over here it's 7 pm Thursday August 11th. Still at work. Been here since 8.30 this morning. I hate it when patients are late. Darn public transport. Should be leaving about now.

Welcome one and all. This will be a great swap. We always have fun and make new friends. What's not to like. :)

dream56 08-11-2011 05:11 PM

Got a question that I'm throwing out to all of you.

What are your favorite items that you have either received or made or saw someone else receive?

Hmm. The first part is easy.....

My favorite thing I received is the tote bag with dragon motif that you made me. Sorry everybody else but I love it so much I'm well on the way to wearing it out.

The rest of the question is harder because I've not seen anything I *didn't* like nor received anything that I didn't like. My partners have always been very good about listening to the size of things and colors I like etc. I've used everything that I receive. It all starts with me taking it to the office and hanging it up for a bit. If it's a table runner, like I recently received, then I put it on the pull out tray on my desk. My pot holders that I've received I use every day and are hanging up in the kitchen so they are real handy. The pin cushions are all around my work area so I'm golden on everything that I've gotten.

lindyline 08-11-2011 06:14 PM

Ok here goes Dee.
Favorite thing received is a tiss up between the Amy butler bag which I have almost worn out and the two wonderful sewing purses. Of course everything else I've received are equally beautiful and loved but these three are just sooooo useful.
I have two tablerunners that get alternated on the downstairs coffee table and now my memory is slipping cos I think I've lost a months gift somewhere not in reality only in my mind.
So far there is nothing I've seen that I would turn my nose up at. And the girls I work with look forward to ah months goodies.
Sorry I'm not being much help.

dream56 08-11-2011 07:40 PM

That is all great - this gives our newbies some ideas.

As for me - favorite is probably the totebag from Nancy since I use it everyday. I know I make them but haven't made myself one yet. The wall hanging from Bonni I still use on my kitchen table and rotate it with the other table toppers I got. And I love the pin cushions, doll and fabric hostess gifts as well.

I too love everything I've seen made so far. The one I made and loved the most was the sweatshirt top even though it nearly drove me crazy making it. Love the element of surprise, even with all those hints.

Conniequilts 08-13-2011 07:12 AM

Bless the hearts of those who answered Dee's question. I love everything I have received. We have a superb group of swappers and love seeing more and more join :)

lindyline 08-13-2011 09:27 AM

Hey I finally figured out the swap I lost in my mind. Was a darling purple thread carcher/pincushion. Figures the most recent which is on the sewing table would be the one I forget!

LOL - I guess we are getting older and losing our memories. It is just so much fun to get anything made by someone else.
