BLUE AND YELLOW BLOCK SWAP

12 1/2 inch UNFINISHED blue and yellow sampler blocks.

You make 12 blocks, all alike and send them to me along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for return postage... what ever it cost to send it to me, it will cost to return your blocks to you...so be sure to put enough postage on your envelope. When you are ready to send them to me, please pm me and I'll give you my address.

I will send you back one of your blocks and one each of 11 different blocks..

Please mark EACH ONE of your blocks with a little slip of paper pinned to it or a sticky label with your message board id and if you want to, your real name. It is nice to know who made the blocks in your quilt.
If you want to make multiple sets, just make sure you have 12 blocks of each pattern. You will receive back as many as you send.

Mail your blocks to me by August 31, 2009.

I will mail them back out by September 15, 2009 or as close to that as possible.

If you want to post what block you are making, we can try to keep them all as different as possible. Let's keep each other motivated to make the deadline and have lots of participants!

question:

all fabric choices should only contain shades of yellow and blue and no other color at all?

bearisgray 06-25-2009 06:52 AM

I would like to see blue, yellow, and white.

Or white as an optional addition.

kluedesigns 06-25-2009 06:57 AM

i have a yellow background fabric with blue flowers that has the slightest bit of green leaves

would that be ok?

bearisgray 06-25-2009 06:59 AM

I'm not in charge, but I'm thinking as long as the fabric "reads" yellow or blue from - say 3 feet away - that it should be okay.

Jerrie 06-25-2009 07:00 AM

ok count me in

collettakay 06-25-2009 07:04 AM

The overall colors should be blue and yellow. Whites can also be used within the piecework as long as the majority of the block is blue and yellow.

Secondary colors within the fabric are OK. Such as, a yellow calico with small blue and rose flowers would be fine. As long as the "feel" of the blocks are blue and yellow that is what we are striving for.

kluedesigns 06-25-2009 07:04 AM

ok i'm gonna do the friendship star that way i can take care of both swaps this weekend.

(i'm bad - i just got the time to do the B&W)

Barbm 06-25-2009 07:05 AM

me too!!! Colletta are you our designated swap lady? hey- dsl- he he.

Time frame please- I like the short time frames- they make me work. I work well under pressure. I'll do the same squares- squares in squares 2 and Ohio Star and card trick. they are fun.

Ok, Barb, your blocks are due July 15th! Is that enough pressure? lol Just kidding.

collettakay 06-25-2009 07:11 AM

I'm going to do the Friendship Star Variation. I've been wanting to do that one for a while and just decided to do it.

Washed please.

Ducky 06-25-2009 09:19 AM

Colletta, what about vividness or brightness? Should it be more on the muted side? Does it matter?

collettakay 06-25-2009 09:32 AM

No, I don't think we will put any restrictions of that type. It will make it too difficult for everyone, I think.

Jerrie 06-25-2009 09:38 AM

Is there a certain shade of Blue and Yellow?

BlueChicken 06-25-2009 01:36 PM

I'm in! :-)

No idea on what block to do.... but it will be SIMPLE this time! pmsl Might even get two sets done, blue is my favourite colour and I have a lot of it. Yellow would be an easy second, so should be able to find some.

And that reminds me... I haven't done my return postage for the black and whites yet... I shall go do it now. *rushes off to find instructions*

chewboo 06-25-2009 02:10 PM

Of course you all are special!

But, I think I'm going to decline this one.
I'm actually partial to the cobalt blue colors and I know this isn't going to come out right, but I'm going to try to say it and hope it doesn't offend anyone.
If I were to do yellow and blue, I would want it to be the cobalt blue. No offense against any other color/shade of blue. I would just prefer the one shade, know what I mean?
I'm sure ALL the blocks are going to be beautiful...the ones from the B&W are great, but....I'm going to decline.
Can't wait to see all the blocks!!

kluedesigns 06-25-2009 08:00 PM

i just enjoy collaborating with other quilters - i don't need to love every color choice to have fun.

the pleasure is the quilting journey and the lovely quilt that i made with all my online quilting guild friends.

I must admit, I thought the same thing... I like royal blues, very bright vivid strong blues, and equally bright yellows.

But.... like kluedesigns, I don't think you need to like every colour for it to be great. I detest orange, but I use it quite a lot and love it in quilts. Same with the blues, I think the blocks themselves and the variety will make the finished quilts spectacular.

Are you SURE you want to deprive the rest of us of getting a gorgeous cobalt blue and yellow block from you?!?!? ;-) ;-) ;-)

kwhite 06-25-2009 08:18 PM

I am in. i don't know what I will do, but I am in.

Ducky 06-25-2009 08:32 PM

Well said, Klue. That was nice.

MadeinMaine 06-25-2009 08:42 PM

Yippeeee!! Sounds like fun and a beautiful choice. I think I will do a set of Double Z blocks. Thanks, Colletta!

tlrnhi 06-25-2009 10:12 PM

I'm going to keep thinking....I'll check what I have. Really don't want to go out and buy anymore fabric. <GASP!> Did I just say that? I must be losing my mind.
Going to give it a few more days, maybe.

And I agree with Klue...I love making things with the others, but I just prefer certain colors.

TEXASQUILTS 06-26-2009 12:17 AM

I'm in...not sure on block yet. I already have fabric so maybe I'll habe time to work on it this weekend. Its 3:00am here can sleep knee is
killing me. Pulled a something when turning around this afternoon.
And I can hardly put any weight on it at all. We just have to baby it for a
few days not the first time this has happened.

ai731 06-26-2009 06:08 AM

Is there a deadline for signing up for this swap?

I'd love to participate, but I don't have very much yellow fabric in my stash and I can't afford to go out and buy more fabric right now. If I don't have to sign up right away, I can keep an eye out for some suitable fabrics at the thrift store over the next few weeks, and hopefully find something in time to join in.

kluedesigns 06-26-2009 06:14 AM

the only deadline is the delivery date to colletta.

Countrygirl 06-26-2009 07:30 AM

I am in. I will post my block later today. Can we do two sets with this swap?

Yep, you can do 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 like susiequilt did with the Black and White!
