Boomerang 7.0-WATER Group

Boomerang Friendship Swap 7.0 Mailing deadline to mail all blocks home to their owners is July 15, 2012.

Hello and welcome to the Boomerang Friendship Swap. You are the WATER Group. Please remember how the swap works.

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11).
2) You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use but please do not request specific blocks. This is meant to be a “friendship” swap where your friends pick, design and create a beautiful 12.5” unfinished block for you based on the fabric you send them.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm )
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished. They can be regular pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd-whatever the quilter decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please remember to measure two, three times and cut once and do your very best to make sure the finished block you are sending home is 12.5"
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely.
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make 38 blocks in this group.
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore your creativity as you do not have to make the same block for everyone. You can try that block you always wanted to. Try new fabrics, new colors...step outside of your comfort zone in to a different box

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time.

I think you will find yourself enjoying the blocks because you can work at your pace as they come in as long as they are all out by the established deadline.

As always please feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns-I am always happy to help.

Hugs
April

Aaaaand we're off! Hurrah!

dove911 03-13-2012 06:40 PM

I received my list and will let you know when I mail out my fabrics!

masimmons 03-13-2012 08:29 PM

Just saw the list on this sight. I will also post when they are in the mail

Jupiter 03-13-2012 10:08 PM

Hi,

I got the lists and they look good. I am on vacation right now, but will get my F8's mailed out @ 3/24 when I am home again. DH is home, so if anyone sends F8's my way, they will be brought in and put in my basket.

These Boomerang swaps are so much fun. This is my 3rd one and I still fill giddy about starting out on a new adventure in quilting! lol Nice to see old friends and new names too.

Thank you April, for making this happen. I know this is a burden of love on your part, but I want you to realise how much joy you bring to all of us. I hope you are feeling better and that life is smoothing out for you.

hugs, Jupiter

I still haven't made a final decision on which fabric I want to use. I will decide soon, and have my F8's in the mail hopefully by Monday.

dungeonquilter 03-14-2012 08:05 AM

I have my list. I haven't made a final decision about the fabric, but will by this weekend. Will be stopping in at the LQS on my way home today.

jaba 03-14-2012 08:14 AM

I'm in the water group. Just finished addressing envelops and will take them to the post office today. So excited, am really looking forward to all of your fabrics, just hope I can do your blocks justice.

wendsy 03-14-2012 12:36 PM

The envelopes are address, materials to be washed but probably won't be able to mail until next week, but will get them sent as soon as possible.

LovingIzabella 03-14-2012 12:44 PM

Aww thanks so much for the kind words Marilyn. I truly do love this swap and hope that others will love it as I do :) Life is better for me since surgery as my numbness is pretty much all gone and my vision has come back to almost 100%. The migraines are not screaming at me and they have eased quite a bit. I will take a bad day here and there any day over horrible pain 24/7/365 lol The rest of the things I am dealing with in life will work themselves out in time. :)
Abonda I will re-email the list to you now.
Hugs
April

missgigglewings 03-14-2012 04:01 PM

Yay! I'm in water group too! I got my list and see a lot of Boom Friends on it! Soooo....here we go again!

Hey April....that isn't "hot" water we're all in...is it? Happy you are feeling better...you should write a book about this ICHT! You probably know more about it then most doctors do!

sustraley 03-14-2012 05:51 PM

Rats!! I started printing out my letters to go with my fabric and ran out of ink. Then instead of going to Staples, my 3 month old grandson told me he missed me and wanted to see me. Well, I hadn't seen him since Monday after all. So, I went to see him. Hee Hee. Guess I will make a trip for ink tomorrow.

Cyndi H 03-14-2012 08:16 PM

Envelopes are ready to be mailed! I recognize about half of you from previous Booms, so hello to old friends and new!

sew1096 03-15-2012 01:48 AM

I think I will be doing a couple of different fabrics this time. I don't think I'll have enough of the one I started with - due to my own error in cutting! And I also find my fabric is less than 44" so my pieces will be a little less than 22". I have to get my envelopes ready and labels printed and then I'm off to the Post Office. I can't wait to start making blocks.

Ok Darla 03-15-2012 04:27 AM

Happy Sewing everyone!

Sandynorm 03-15-2012 06:25 AM

I am so excited about getting started, but it will not be till next week sometime. My fabric is picked out and washed, but I had to get ready for vacation so I have not cut it yet. And I am still on the beach in sunny Daytona for a couple more days, and in the quilt shops buying fabric later in the days!

QuiltingKrazy 03-15-2012 08:09 AM

Lucky YOU! I wanna go to the beach so bad in these WARM sunny days!

goldendog55 03-15-2012 08:32 AM

I'm looking forward to meeting those that I haven't swapped with before. Mine will be mailed today.

dove911 03-15-2012 06:39 PM

My fabrics were mailed out this afternoon. I think I accidentally mailed 2 to one person, so if you get 2 just keep the extra one. I'm looking forward to doing this swap!

marcialee 03-16-2012 02:23 AM

I will cut mine over the weekend and mail on Monday, hopefully.

abonda 03-16-2012 04:21 AM

Mine are all mailed out..... Can hardly wait till I start getting them!!! :)

oldcatlady 03-16-2012 06:07 AM

Well, I'm not doing something right :) I can't get my addresses to mail merge. I've downloaded the xl spreadsheet and 'saved as' but when I go to merge it, it is not listed as an option in my documents. not sure what I'm doing wrong. I would hate to have to write all my labels :(

oldcatlady 03-16-2012 06:34 AM

I can only open as 'read only' because it stated it was an older version, is that why it's not an option in my documents?

daisey 03-16-2012 10:41 AM

can anyone post directions on how to mail merge with microsoft word/excel...I forgot how..Ive been trying to figure it out and not doing so good..Thanks for any help I can get,,,April sent me instructions last year and they worked perfectly but I cant find them...

Scrapquilt 03-16-2012 10:51 AM

Mailed my fabric today. To anyone that gets an envelope with a crooked stamp, you can thank my six year old grandson:-)

babeyruth 03-16-2012 11:07 AM

This is what April sent me for the last Boom.

Just in case anyone needs help with labels try this:
Open and save the excel spreadsheet in your documents. Open up word, click on mailings, start mail merge and then choose the step by step wizard. From the right choose labels, then next, then choose label options from right, the box that pops up 5160 is generally the 3 rows 10 per row address label format, then next to select recipients, browse and choose the excel spreadsheet, click next arrange labels click address block, match fields in the lower right, first name should be swapper name, last name & suffix not matched, company (this is optional) you can put their boardname here or not matched, address 1 will be street name, address 2 not matched, city will be city, state & zip, state & postal code will be not matched and country or region will be country. Once you select these fields click okand then ok again and then update all labels on the right hand side. Then click on next preview your labels then next complete the merge and then print on the right. You should be good to go. I would recommend not putting their board name on the labels as this may make them too large.

LovingIzabella 03-16-2012 11:14 AM

Thanks so much for posting the mail merge directions Ruth :)
If anyone needs the newer version of excel format just let me know and I will save and send it to you. I always save as a 97-2003 version because a lot of people I know do not have the newer version of excel.

Thank you for posting the directions for the mail merge. It sure saves me a lot of time. My labels are all printed up and ready to go, including for returning the blocks to their owners.
I keep everything together in a box, including my extra fabric that I send out.
No excuse now not to get everything ready to mail out this weekend. Just have to pick up postage on the way home tonite. I have chosen to use up a lot of my animal prints. I want to make up some children's quilts for donations.

oldcatlady 03-16-2012 12:18 PM

April, I just sent you a PM. I was using your instructions from Boom 6 - I hunted it down :) but I think it's not an option to merge because I opened it in 'read only' format - that is the only way I could open it. Can you tell I'm not that computer literate? :)

Thanks for posting it Ruth!

babeyruth 03-16-2012 03:03 PM

You are very welcome, just in case there are still issues, for my PC, I had to use the Avery Wizard inside of MS Word 2007, that was a much easier Merge!

Received my first 2 squishies today, beautiful colors from LJDugas31 & Abby's Mom!

eagleoneowl2u2 03-16-2012 03:20 PM

My husband decided that he needed to wreck his car and then about 2 weeks later wreck my truck so I do not have a car. So I have to wait until this weekend to get any fabric to send to ya'll. Since we are using my husband's work truck. So I will be mailing out all the fabrics soon. I think I will be doing 3 different fabrics. Not sure yet. But this time I will not be late mailing out my blocks to everyone. I promise. My health problems are getting a little better. When I had my first brain bleed they said I had 2 more that could burst and well one did and maybe the other one will not give me problems. I have lived through both bursts. I just hope if this 3rd one goes I will be ok to. I know I will I feel good about this one. I know it sounds weird but I think this last one will not cause me any problems for a very long time. LOL Ok have a wonderful weekend and Happy Quilting!!

abonda 03-16-2012 03:55 PM
