Boomerang 8.0 DIAMONDS Group

Boomerang Friendship Swap 8.0 DIAMONDS Group

Boomerang Friendship Swap 8 Diamonds group. Mailing deadline for all blocks to be home is January 1, 2013 to allow some time with the holidays.

Hello and welcome to the Boomerang Friendship Swap. This swap is about a great opportunity to get a large number of blocks from all over the world made by our online quilting friends. This is open to swappers no matter where they live, so come on and join us international folks

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11) or (9x22) We prefer the 18 x 11 for this swap as it gives a bigger cutting area for certain blocks but either measurement will work.
2) You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use but please do not request specific blocks. This is meant to be a “friendship” swap where your friends pick, design and create a beautiful 12.5” unfinished block for you based on the fabric you send them.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010 )
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished. They can be regular pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd-whatever the quilter decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every level join in and try new things and grow.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make 35 blocks per large group (36 swappers in each group) or 15 blocks per small group (16 swappers in each group) (If you wish to do two groups please be aware this means you will have to mail 70 F8s and make 70 blocks or any combination of the possible group size). Please be aware of this before you commit yourself if you do not think you would be comfortable making 35 blocks in 4 months. (70 for 2 groups)
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore your creativity as you do not have to make the same block for everyone. You can try that block you always wanted to. Try new fabrics, new colors...step outside of your comfort zone in to a different box

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

I think you will find yourself enjoying the blocks because you can work at your pace as they come in as long as they are all out by the established deadline once the swap is closed.

As always please feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns-I am always happy to help.
Hugs
April

Nexxus831 08-17-2012 10:47 PM

Ok I added her so that makes 38 of us?

moonrise 08-18-2012 01:20 AM

Mailing 'em this morning, except for goldendog55's (need zip code) and Linda58 (awaiting confirmation on address per e-mail). :)

I think I'm dehydrated from licking all those envelopes. LOL! ;)

Nexxus831, I counted 38 total, including oneself, so that should be 37 to be mailed, assuming I counted correctly.

Yosamitesa 08-18-2012 04:33 AM

Yea!!! Lots of familiar names!!!! Woo hoo!!! Addressing this morning. ;)

TwinRiverFarm 08-18-2012 04:35 AM

Arrggghh! Here I am, jumping up and down, excited beyond belief to start. I even bought those stickyback computer address thingys to print for my envelopes (and baby my carpel tunnel before all the sewing to come..) and... my printer runs out of ink... 50 miles from the nearest source. Somehow I think the roadtrip is justified this time... F8's all cut and packaged anyway. WooHoo!

Yosamitesa 08-18-2012 06:13 AM

All are addressed (except linda58) and ready to go. Will be heading to po soon!!!

LovingIzabella 08-18-2012 06:16 AM

Sorry about the zip code ladies. I sent an email with it.

QuilterMomma 08-18-2012 07:18 AM

Well, you ladies are on the ball. I am working on my show quilts this weekend so not mailing or cutting or doing anything yet. The garage is finally a comfortable 70 degrees and I am almost done with the 18" log cabin blocks for the star quilt so will get on this. I teach class today as well so may find another fabric on sale that I may want to do a quilt. Will work on that. I do have two yards of 30s fabric I am going to send. I am debating on if I want all blocks in the 30s or if I want to have two different quilts. Hmmmmmmm that decision stuff, Yep it is Fraew and Jaba's fault.

Scrapper 08-18-2012 07:32 AM

Howdy ladies.......diamonds...I like that label! I am still trying to figure out a theme for this swap......hmmmm what to do what to do....

Yosamitesa 08-18-2012 07:54 AM

Hmmm...maybe next time I could do scrappy!!! Oh fun!!!

jaba 08-18-2012 07:54 AM

Let the fun begin, now to see if I can figure out mail merge, probably will be easier to just write them out. Hopefully in the mail Monday.

urgodschild2 08-18-2012 08:25 AM

ok I have to go get groceries when I would rather stash my envelops and label them. Well lets get it over with and then I can begin. so excited. Can't wait to see all the delicious material you all send me to play with. Also who was it that desperately needed the chocolate. I will share my M & M's.

oldcatlady 08-18-2012 08:44 AM

You guys are really on the ball :) I just finally decided on fabric and am washing it now. I have a house and a large yard and flower beds surrounding the property and it's just me. It finally will be cool enough to get out and do some weeding, etc that I have put off all summer. I would much rather be inside playing w/ fabric. It will probably be next weekend that I get mine mailed. It is so much fun to get your fabric and start playing! :)

I can't get my old printer to play nice with my new laptop!!! might be time to buy that new printer after all. :)

TheMamaHauser 08-18-2012 09:32 AM

So, looking at the list, one of the other Diamonds member is literally less than 10 blocks from me! How cool is that! Chewboo, we're practically neighbors!

Annaquilts 08-18-2012 09:41 AM

Your in put please

I am a DIAMONDS girl.

If I send tea dyed premium MODA muslin(looks a bit like vintage muslin) and request for colors-

Patriotic Americana darker shades of Red/burgundy, crème and darker or grey blues or Civil War fabrics. Please no bright red/white/blue.

Do you think that would work? I am trying to communicate what I am looking for. Does this make sense to you?

Let me know if that is too hard. I just think it would be fun to do that but I am not into the bright red/white and blue.

What is everyone using for fabrics? Or is that supposed to be part of the surprise?

jaba 08-18-2012 09:51 AM

Sounds good to me annaquilts, I think I know what your talking about. Hint on mine..you'll be able to make me maybe a blueberry pie, strawberry shortcake, or a jar of canned tomatoes?

urgodschild2 08-18-2012 10:10 AM

anna I can do what ever you like and it is not too complicated. Go for it. I have civil war material and others that I am sure would work fine.
Jaba I will love to work on your material. it looks so yummy. maybe I might eat it instead. LOL.

Annaquilts 08-18-2012 10:28 AM

Jaba- Oooohhh foods! I love it. Bring it on.

Yosamitesa- Dr. Seus is so much fun. I can't wait to see which one I get to work with.

QuilterMomma I hope I get to make a 1930 block for you. I have a small pile of Fat Quarters.

Yosamitesa 08-18-2012 10:31 AM

Anna, I'm in and know exactly what you are looking for. Jaba, yours is gonna be fun, even though I'm stumped on a design. It'll come to me, I know it will. :D

Annaquilts 08-18-2012 10:32 AM

Thank you for the encouragemement urgosdschild2.

If u really wanna know, pm me and I'll tell ya which one you got. If ya wanna be surprised, then I can accommodate that too!!

TheMamaHauser 08-18-2012 10:54 AM

So, if I stick a signature block or a small "sign me" label in each envelope, is it going to be a gigantic pain to keep track of it, sign it, & send it back with the block?

Is it asking too much?

Annaquilts 08-18-2012 10:59 AM

No not too much at all. Just be sure to spell it out for me. I am the type that is willing but needs extra directions. :D

Fraew 08-18-2012 11:21 AM

Where do I start....

QMamma - I also entertained 30s so I would love to play with that if that is what you decide.
Yosamitesa - I know what to do with yours too. Can't wait!
Jaba - Yum, yum! The problem with yours is that I have too many ideas...hope to narrow it down quickly when your little treasure arrives.
Anna - I love your idea. CW patriotic fabrics are on my top 10 list. That's what I think I will use for Deb's swap so I have some of that yummy stuff on hand and ready to go. Are you also hoping for CWish style blocks? Or anything goes. I don't mind a little direction at all. :)

Let's go Diamonds! Let's go diamonds!

Hehehehe you make me feel like I am in High School again.

CWish block would be great but I know there was a request not to specifiy type of blocks so I will glaldy comply with that. I am doing all 36 blocks Patriotic Americana/Civil War so I can get multiple quilts out of it. I will try and sort the blocks according to how they are made, the colors and fabrics used.

Waiting for hubby to come home with the tea bags. My fabric is washed and sitting wet in the sink waiting for a good soak in the tea.

QuilterMomma 08-18-2012 11:39 AM

Awesome, I am sending on some 30s fabric. I will post a photo of it. You can use any 30s fabric with it. I am trying to use up the stack of fabric I have. I just finished this morning my 18" log cabin blocks for my star quilt, then I finished up the extra blocks into the baby quilt, then I had enough left over that I did nine patch block log cabins with the left overs I had from Tam moos quilt and I have enough to make another baby quilt. I am so done with log cabins. I am going to use up the last of the strips and little pieces and make the nine patch border just so I don't have the tiny pieces hanging all over the place. Just can't throw them away. Silly me, I know. So off to teach my class at the LQS and resist buying anything. If I really get stuck, I just may, but I am going to use up what I have and send out different pieces besides the two yards I do have. This way it will be the scrappy appearance I like in the 30s fabric. So glad I am a jewel, although the candy bar sounded good.

jaba 08-18-2012 11:42 AM

They're all addressed, only took me 2 hours for both groups, my hands tired. Mind went dense on the mail merge. Final count 53 to make, oops promised sustraley 2 so 54. First here, first out. Some of you will be cussing me I'm sure over this fabric, but I'm gonna' have a fun quilt and an awesome table runner and set of placemats. It goes from blueberries, banana's, green apples to peppers, tomatoes, and garlic and everything in between. Envelopes were sealed so will have to do the candy on the return trip.
Hubby just walked in the door, looked at all the envelops, said "Oh, my Gosh" and left!!

marytoddliz 08-18-2012 12:53 PM

Mine are in the mail! I thought the mail guy was going to faint when I showed him my shoe box full of Manila Envelopes. it cost me $30.44 cents to mail out to two groups. If I have you in both groups I sent your fabric in One envelope. The cost was the same so I saved 65 cents that way. There are 7 people that are in both the Diamonds and Pearls. I hope you don't mind getting them together. I sent even The one to Canada that way. If you write on it Scrap of fabric NO value, you don't have to fill out custom form and the postage for me was only $1.17Now I get to wait for your fabric to come to me~

happy day ladies, happy day!

marytoddliz 08-18-2012 12:57 PM

Oh how I love 30's fabric, and Dr Seuss, and fruits... oh my it is going to be so fun. When I told my husband he had to buy me some Diamonds and Pearls to go with my quilting groups, he brought me my Diamond and pearl earrings, (they have been in my jewelry box for way to long) said, 'just wear these!' He is just no fun!
