Boomerang 9.0 ARCTIC O Group Thread

Boomerang Friendship Swap 9.0 ARCTIC Ocean Group
Mailing deadline is June 1, 2013

Hello and welcome to the ARCTIC Ocean group.

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11) or (9x22) We prefer the 18 x 11 for this swap as it gives a bigger cutting area for certain blocks but either measurement will work.
2) You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use but please do not request specific blocks. This is meant to be a “friendship” swap where your friends pick, design and create a beautiful 12.5” unfinished block for you based on the fabric you send them.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010 )
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished. They can be regular pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd-whatever the quilter decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every level join in and try new things and grow.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make 35 blocks per large group (36 swappers in each group) or 15 blocks per small group (16 swappers in each group) (If you wish to do two groups please be aware this means you will have to mail 70 F8s and make 70 blocks or any combination of the possible group size). Please be aware of this before you commit yourself if you do not think you would be comfortable making 35 blocks in 4 months. (70 for 2 groups)
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore your creativity as you do not have to make the same block for everyone. You can try that block you always wanted to. Try new fabrics, new colors...step outside of your comfort zone in to a different box

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

As always please feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns-I am always happy to help.

Hugs
April

WoW Let the fun begin!!!!

bibliostone 01-29-2013 11:59 AM

Hi everyone. Glad to see so many old and new names in the group. Just to let you know, I'll be mailing my fabric from Florida and won't be back in Ohio until the end of February. Therefore, I won't be able to let you know that your fabric has arrived until then. Feel free to wait until the last week of February to mail to me if you want. My son is collecting the mail, but I wouldn't trust him to open and keep the fabric organized! I plan to send out two different fabrics.

Ok Darla 01-29-2013 12:01 PM

Already had my fabric ready to go.....

dotcomdtcm 01-29-2013 01:16 PM

Hi everyone. I hope you like purple! This set will be for a purple and white quilt. All is in the mail except for OKDarla's.
Mary, I will get to the post office soon and fill out the Customs form. Enjoy...

They make you fill out a customs form? My post office has never done that. They just weigh it and tell me how much it will be to send to Canada.

wendsy 01-29-2013 08:42 PM

When mail to OK Darla I usually don't have to fill out custom forms-but when I mailed out a larger envelope (was sending 2 blocks I had to fill out a form. It also depends on who's working. My fabric won't go out until next week-still choosing fabric :)

ahwu 01-29-2013 08:48 PM

Hi everyone, getting my fabric ready to be mailed. :)

ljdugas31 01-30-2013 12:45 PM

I sent all my fabric out today!!! Cant wait to see the mailbox full of sqishes !!! Happy sewing everyone.

urgodschild2 01-30-2013 04:49 PM

Sending to Canada.....if you mark fabric no value.....then you generally do not have to fill out a custom form.

Biblio.....LOL. when I went to Australia last boom....my son was the one who collected my squishies but I didn't trust him to open them either. Best to wait until I came back. I didn't want anything to get messed up. Although I was really anxious to know which ones I got. I did ask him to at least give me the names on the return part.

This is going to be a great group and we are going to have so much fun. I will be mailing mine out on Monday and will let you all know for sure.

For those of you who have already started sending........oh my goodness......I am so excited because I know that I will be getting squishies by Sat. and I can't wait. Hurry Hurry Hurry. LOL.

Ok Darla 01-30-2013 05:13 PM

In my experience, if you mark "fabric scrap - no value" it doesn't need a customs form.
Hope this helps,

urgodschild2 01-31-2013 08:57 AM

Hey I had to go to page two to find us. We need to put us on page one. LOL. Well I ran out of paper and so I must go and do that so that I can print my messages to you all. I have allmost all the envelopes stuffed. But I do need to go out and buy some more material. Sad isn't it? Not. Well while we are all busy buying, cutting, putting in envelopes, I am baking brownies and of course we can all have coffee with it. Enjoy them.

oma7 01-31-2013 10:03 AM

Hi all! I'm ready to start a new boom!!! Looking foward to seeing all the cool fabric. I'm deciding on what I want to use, I'll figure it out soon and get it all in the mail!!! Looking foward to a fun swap!!!!

Here is my fabric. The color is a bit off in the picture, but it makes me smile when I look at it... I am going to make a quilt for my guess room. Will try to mail these out on Monday.

ljdugas31 01-31-2013 04:57 PM

Dot i got your fabric today and i love it purple my fav color!!!

oldcatlady 01-31-2013 06:13 PM

I decided to cut and paste all the info onto the labels instead of hand writing it all since I couldn't get the mail merge to work this time. I don't know if that was less work than hand writing! I was tired of clicking! I got all my F8's in the mail this morning.

Please, please if anyone has to pay extra postage on mine let me know and I will send it to you with your finished block. I've never had a problem before but it seems the PO is getting pickier all the time.

I haven't received anyone's F8 yet :(

bibliostone 01-31-2013 10:13 PM

Fabric went out today to: Ahwu, Eagleoneowl2u2, MdmSew'n'Sew, and Nexxus831.

urgodschild2 02-01-2013 11:03 AM

Ok I just returned from walking over to my post office. I am fortunate because it is only 1/2 half a block away. I am in every group so I am going to post this on each group so that I do not have to type it again. Everyone's F8 has been mailed. WHEW!!!!! Being in all 5 groups you can imagine the price I paid. Of course I also had to get 100 forever stamps and 200 20c stamps. One of those 100 20cents is for a member in the Pacific group who can't get to the post office. Ok I will share what I learned. All my envelope cost exactly one forever stamp. So if your end tells you different let me know. Now for the people who are in more then one group.....I put yours in a 5 X 7 envelop. Guess what....that is considered pkg. price and so it cost more then if I just put them in separate office envelops and mailed them. Go figure. So When I return your grown up block...those in several groups will get several envelops. I want you all to know that so that you mail yours just in the office envelop as it will be cheaper. Of course those overseas always will cost more. LOL. I was surprised that my office envelopes were just the forever stamp, but then this is the first time I wrapped them in saran wrap and squished them down as tight as possible.
I am now looking forward to getting F8 to start making blocks. Let the fun begin.

urgodschild2 02-01-2013 01:21 PM

Hi Dottie. I just finished your block and sent it off. You can peek if you want in my album area. Got to figure out how to put that at the bottom of my signature.

Well I spent the day yesterday picking out patterns and selecting material to go with it. Then a friend and I went to Barnes and Nobles to meet an author. His namne is Robert Crais......anyone read his books??? I never have and he is a mystery writer...my favorite genre. It is the first time I went to an author signing. He spoke for about 20 min before signing his books. Great author and now I will be reading his books.
So today, I will be watching the superbowl game. Go RAvens. I love the commercials too. But I will also be quilting by hand on my quilt that I have been working on for over a year. Not every day but off and on.....I think more off then on.
Tomorrow I will take the blocks and sew them all together. I love seeing the patterns come to life with the fabric people send me. It is fun. Then I will mail them back to their owners all grown up and dressed up so pretty.

dotcomdtcm 02-03-2013 12:46 PM

All my fabric is in the mail. If you don't get one by next week, let me know. I will send individual pms as I receive your fabric,.
