Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0-MEROPE Group

Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0 MEROPE Group :)

Mailing deadline for completed blocks will be November 10,2013.

Hello and welcome to the Boomerang Friendship Swap. This swap is about a great opportunity to get a large number of blocks from all over the world made by our online quilting friends.

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11) or (9x22) We prefer the 18 x 11 for this swap as it gives a bigger cutting area for certain blocks but either measurement will work.
2) You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use but please do not request specific blocks. This is meant to be a “friendship” swap where your friends pick, design and create a beautiful 12.5” unfinished block for you based on the fabric you send them.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html)
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished. They can be regular pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd-whatever the quilter decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every level join in and try new things and grow.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make one block for each member in your group (not including yourself.)
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore your creativity as you do not have to make the same block for everyone. You can try that block you always wanted to. Try new fabrics, new colors...step outside of your comfort zone in to a different box

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

I think you will find yourself enjoying the blocks because you can work at your pace as they come in as long as they are all out by the established deadline once the swap is closed.

As always please feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns-I am always happy to help.

Hugs
April

Hello to all the gals I have swapped with before - and to all the new friends! My F8s are already in the envelopes so will be going out in tomorrow's mail. Let the fun begin!

Shadowirish 07-09-2013 08:30 PM

Hi all! I have to get one more ready as I only prepped 15, but they should be in the mail by the end of the week.
Have fun everybody!

LovingIzabella 07-10-2013 06:22 AM

Sorry for the change in number of swappers. I did not have enough to make another full small group so I made it even across the board in 5 of the small groups so now you will get 16 blocks back (you don't have to make your own now teehee!)
Hugs
April

Hi All! I am not in this group but would love to do some extra side swaps. PM me if you are interested!

wendsy 07-10-2013 08:09 AM

Hi all,
I will be getting out my F8s next week (hopefully sooner) but I am house sitting over the weekend and the beginning of next week, so I will try to get everything ready before I leave but if not they will go out once I get home. Can't wait to see what all your fabrics!

Nelco 07-10-2013 08:22 AM

Greetings fellow Merope's. I will have my F8 out to you by the end of the month. Why so late you ask? I am the textile Coordinator for our county fair (it opens July 24 but I have entry and judging and set up next week) and I will be busy, busy tell then.

urgodschild2 07-10-2013 08:38 AM

Hello everyone. Wow what is a merope? Looked it up and it says a greek mythology. Hmmmmmm Me think it is a rope. LOL. Ok cutting my fabric and then will type up my note and then will send them all off. Will be on their way by the weekend. I hope this is a slow group because I just can't do fast.

Marich52 07-10-2013 08:55 AM

I like having a place to post for our group...I won't get so confused, well maybe I won't. I hope everyone will post their special block requests here, then I can note it on my spreadsheet. I know there were a lot posted on the general list but I didn't keep track. Let the fun begin!

Usually if someone has a special request they will send a note along with their F8 so you don't have to worry about remembering anything or referring back lots of pages :)

There is only one fast group so no worries there!

roseirish48 07-10-2013 07:08 PM

hello group--i will be mailing out f8s next week. i will be sending pink fabrics as i will be using the returned blocks in a sampler style quilt to donate to Quilt for Cure auction. i feel so many of our fellow quilters have or presently are fighting the battle. this will be my way to show my support.

ljdugas31 07-11-2013 09:17 AM

Hi everyone!!! Let the fun begin!!! I sent out all my fabric today!!!!!

urgodschild2 07-11-2013 09:33 AM

Well my plan for yesterday was to take my fleece that I bought and get it all ready to make baby blankets with just crocheting the edges. I have a special blade, well I thought it was special, to cut small holes so the crochet hook would go through easily. Well this blade was so small that it just came apart. So I went to JoAnn's and looked all over. You know they have rotary blades in 5 different areas????? I found one....a singer brand and it even said on it Blanket stitch blade. so I bring it home. Most of those special blades fit almost any blade holder. WELL this one didn't fit any of the blade holders. So a trip back to JoAnn's. I thought I would just buy a singer blade holder. LOL. This blade goes to a huge machine that cost $200 dollars. BUT it was on sale for half off. No way was I going to buy that. So now I have to make a third trip to JOAnn's to return the blade. I was too tired and too disappointed to go back so I took a nap. BUT the good thing is that when I got up from my nap, I took my washed fabric and cut it out and put it in the envelops, addressed them and guess what. They are all on their way to your homes today.
That is a good way to make a crappy day turn into a productive day. YEAH.

Shadowirish 07-11-2013 11:45 AM

Hi everybody! All my F8's are in the mail! Can't wait to see what ya'll come up with for these Egyptian themed fabrics.
I only asked that you keep the theme in mind when choosing your fabrics....like, I don't think florals would work very well, know what I mean? Lol.

Marich52 07-11-2013 04:10 PM

Signed, sealed, delivered...I'm yours.....sorry, it just popped into my head. My fabrics are signed, sealed and ready to go out in tomorrows mail. Mine will be simple....vintage sampler...you can all have total creative freedom. I can't wait to get started!

travelinggramma 07-11-2013 09:56 PM

I can't wait to see all of your fabric - Sure hope you wrote a note with it too!! Family is here for three more days, then going with them to the Grand Canyon. When I return I am hoping the mailbox will be overflowing and then I can play play play.

urgodschild2 07-12-2013 08:28 AM

I sent flowery material. Have fun. No special requests. Any color that goes is fine with me. And you can keep what is extra. Enjoy one and all.

LovingIzabella 07-12-2013 08:40 AM

Hello all!
I will be leaving for Canada early tomorrow morning for a work conference and be returning late on Thursday. It is the World Credit Union Council conference and The Global Women's Leadership Network as well.
So I hope you all have fun, behave and try not to miss me too much LOLOL You can always send me a PM or email and I will answer as soon as I can.

Hello All,
I got home last night from a 1/2 week away at a friends cottage, and I had three squishy's waiting for me!!! Yippee! How exciting! This is my first swap and I am loving it already!!
I received squishy's from: Travelinggramma, Shadowirish, and from someone who did not put her board name on the outside of the envelope. Someone from North Attleboro, MA. I haven't opened it yet, as I am following advice/suggestions posted on the board from people who have done these swaps before. I am opening and doing them in the order I receive them. So far anyway. I've only opened Travelinggramma, as I received hers first, but it's gonna be hard not to open the others! I keep hearing these little, teeny-tiny voices, 'open me, open me'. Don't worry, I'm not answering them, but I may end up opening them, just for a peek! Lol!
I was productive while I was gone, and got my Fat 8's cut and pressed and ready for the envelopes. I just have to make my notes, and address and stamp the the envelopes!
Oh, I am using a variety of fabric from the 'Whimsicals' and 'Button and Blooms' collections from Red Rooster. I just love the fabrics and have had them for a year or longer. I decided the fabric fondling needed to come to an end, so this swap seemed like the perfect 'next step' in our relationship! : )
Hugs,
Shelley : )

Just a little catch up! Recieved fabric from dotcomdicm, ljdugas, qltnrt, Shadowirish, travelinggramma and urgodchild2. Fabrics all look good, need to get my mind working to figure out what to do. I have no peoblem with what colors to use from your suggestions, but the kind of block to make bothers me. I will do as asked, but your not suppose to tell us what block to make, thats up to us. Just had to say how I felt. Sorry

dotcomdtcm 07-15-2013 11:10 AM

I like to choose a simple block like d4p and make it several times, in different fabrics for different swappers.
I learn a lot that way! I am Surrogate Mother of the Bride this Saturday and MOB next Saturday! Then I will work on this Boom. xoxo Dotty

Marich52 07-15-2013 03:22 PM

Wowie Zowie.....received some beautiful F8ths today! Five in one day: urgodschild2, Shadowfish, ljdugas, dotcomdtcm, qltnrt.....you have arrived. Ahhhh, poor me, I have to go play in my fabric...lol

oma7 07-15-2013 04:33 PM
