Really cute sail boats!

I am signing up! Not sure how many sets I will do but I have some idea on what I will do. My experience paper piecing is limited but I have some experience with 3 in. and up finnished size.

My boats were the first thing I pieced so don't worry. I had to practice on several before I took this pic! Glad to have you join us.

Okay-here's the question. What size is technically a miniature quilt?

rwquilts 02-11-2012 08:35 AM

I don't really know what the experts would classify as a real miniature quilt. I'm assuming it's quite small...less than 12" if you're talked to scale for Doll Quilts. But with the size blocks we're making, that wouldn't be very practical? It can be whatever your heart speaks to? I make a lot of mine between 12" and 18". The Doll Quilt swap here on the board has theirs at between 12 and 24 inches. You decide! :)

I will be gone most of the day, but when I get a chance I'll post a couple of pictures of mini quilts I've made, even though some are not made with all paper piecing, just to give people some ideas of the possibilities?

For me, miniature quilt can mean either to scale (like Ronda said) or small.

The Doll Quilt Swap states anything between 12" x 12" up to 24" x 24" and anything in between. http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...p-t178942.html

The Alzheimer's Association Quilt Initiative (AAQI) ask for 9" x 12". http://www.alzquilts.org/

I have saved log cabin pp patterns from block size 1.5" on up to about 4". Sometimes a finished block pattern will measure larger but usually you will make 4 paper pieced sections and sew them together to make the complete block.

I hope I am not making this clear as mud for you. Miniature is what you want to do, IMHO!

PS: The tinier you go the more difficult it 'could' become. I can make 1.5" log cabin blocks but I have to work harder than a 3" or larger and probably will throw out a few in the process. :D:D:D:D

these are going to be awesome...I just LOVE mini blocks...
the first mini block swap I hosted when I owned a miniature group on yahoo, a lady name Yvonne Porcella asked to join and she did all of her blocks by HAND on tissue paper....I still have one them...I later found out who she was...wish it were autographed...Carol Doak also did a block for that swap...what fun those days were....this swap is reminding me of those days and those lovely people who played along....I can not wait to see the rest of the blocks..

I picked a bird house, a flower basket, a flower, a tree a sail boat and a cat! I hope I get them ALL done! I have my placemats ready to quilt, so should get them out by deadline on the 22nd...
