AlaskaAlice, I see we are partners again!! What colors are you wanting this month? Any special requests?

I am still collecting mine to make a couch quilt. This month I would love to see bright (but not neon or "hot" colors).

AlaskaAlice 04-10-2013 10:17 PM

Wow! have I had a challenge finding this swap!!! I was sure I had signed up but have spent days trying to find it..Hope I find out how to do it better soon!(find it on the board)
I have been working on wing blocks but have unsewen this block several times. so I will probably start over.. I am not sure what bright means..can you give me more info..the small blocks I have have been working on are turquoise and spring green. I would love to have a little more input of what would work for your project.
I really have not decided what to make with mine yet. one of the blocks I got is going to finish probably 11 1/2 or 11 1/4 so I am not sure how to get them to fit together. I saw a reference by Ricky Tims about putting together swap blocks that turned out different sizes but I can not find it:(
I have some friendship blocks that were made for my mother about 65-70 years ago and I get them out to look at them thinking about putting them together but they have the same problem. I guess I should post a question and get suggestions on the "board". Hope to hear from you soon!

Just got dark here so I had to turn on a light:) love our long spring and summer days..We got lots of snow this week end and Monday and Tuesday so the snowplow just went by our house.

Turquoise and spring green is perfect!! Will certainly blend with what I have already collected.

I bet your mother's friendship blocks are beautiful. I love finding those treasures. A few days ago I found a block that my grandmother had done. In the center she had signed her name and embroidered it. Think I will make a pillow from it.

AlaskaAlice 04-13-2013 03:24 PM

Sent the block I made for queenof2802 off to her this morning..Sunny and beautiful today and I keep wanting to sleep.

AlaskaAlice 04-13-2013 03:33 PM

Oh snap!! I sent you the other one..Just now read your message.. so I hope the one I finally picked to send will be ok. Happy sewing!

It will be perfect! I just know it.

I am finally working on yours tonight. Here is a sneak peak....

Here is the link to Rhonda's block that I chose for you. Decided against curves. They still scare me!

http://www.quiltingboard.com/members...61-375160.html

AlaskaAlice 04-17-2013 10:11 PM

Those are great pieces! Wish I could get pictures posted!!
I looked at some cameras today at Costco..One of them was nearly 3 thousand dollars. Yikes. There was some for less than $200. but..I just bought food items..I can use the photo booth on the laptop but the pictures are not very good.

I sent you a block that was HST's and Boston blocks.
I have been trying to make the wing blocks..sure have a challenge with getting them to match seams, but finally have one that is ok. Ronda's look so nice! I made HST's by an old method of marking lines of sq's and sewing 1/4" on each side of diagonal lines. cutting on the diagonal and sq lines. the bias edges stay more straight when I sew them the old way. When I make wing blocks I am still challenged to get them all the same size and making corners match and the points all look the same. made some little tiny ones and some bigger ones..now I have more blocks and even more scraps. :p I joined the Doll Quilt Swap and the table mat and runner swap to use up some of the sample blocks and left over blocks.
I decided to buy a Accuquilt cutter..Hope it will help get pieces cut more accurate and make them quicker to make.

Well it's snowing like crazy. Blowing side ways. What happened to spring? We had 9" of the sticky heavy stuff last week end and today it started at 2pm and hasn't slowed down one bit since. Good reason to stay in and quilt I guess.
I sent sgardner her block . Here it is...

queenof2802 04-22-2013 07:10 PM

Love those colors Grandma Di!! That block is beautiful!!

Dodie 04-23-2013 04:54 AM

I love tour block

sgardner 04-25-2013 07:06 PM

Grandma Di, the block is just lovely. You did such a nice job with the seams and everything- it's perfect in every way! Thank you.

Shelley

Rhonda 04-25-2013 07:20 PM

You did a wonderful job on it Grandma Di. I love the color combination. You kept the contrast very nicely!

Grandma Di 04-27-2013 09:18 AM

Thank you sgardner and Rhonda. I really appreciate the feed back. Sometimes I'm not to confident in my color choices. It seems that I don't see colors the same as others. What I think is pink is someone elses purple or vice versa so I usually have to ask others. This one I did by myself.

Rhonda 04-27-2013 11:46 AM

Do we have players for another go round? I'll be happy to post a sign up for May if you like. I'm fine with whatever you all want to do.

queenof2802 04-27-2013 12:00 PM

I would play again. Really enjoy working on these. Think I AM going to try the curves this time. :)

Rhonda 04-27-2013 05:00 PM

Tracey I keep meaning to tell you there are no curves in those wings blocks. They are straight seams but using my method gives you the illusion of curves.

When you are ready to try them you will either need my 30 degree angle template or the paper templates I came up with that takes the place of the angle cut. The paper templates are NOT paper piecing

queenof2802 04-27-2013 07:21 PM

Oh, I guess I need a template then. Looking at the pictures it give the allusion that they are curves. Guess I have decided that WILL be the next project! Thanks Rhonda :)

sgardner 04-30-2013 02:17 PM

I'm in again- let us know the link to the new swap.
