I am checking in! I have participated in a row robin before.sew much fun. We chose to do our sashing on our own, that way we could place the rows in the order we wanted. My theme is dogs/puppies. I like all dogs, puppies dog fabrics, all blocks, applique. I have chinese sharpei.
,embroidery . I will send a few small scraps of dog fabrics, you can use them or send them to the next robin.

Loooking forward to finding out what your themes are.

CherylW 09-17-2012 05:51 PM

Hi everyone! This is my second row robin - I loved the first one I was in. Should we select a name for our group? Need some creative ideas.

Cuppy I love your dog theme - I have a German Shepherd and have always had dogs. Have had a West Highland Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Boxer, Chihuhua (not sure about the spelling on that), 2 German Shepherds and a Shepherd/Golden mix.

I haven't totally decided on my theme yet - several ideas rolling around in the old noggin. Will be working over the next week or so to solidfy and start working.

I think we should post pictures as we start to work on things so that everyone can get an idea of what's coming and how their piece is growing. I know I enjoyed that the last robin I was in.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to either post your questions here - I will be on the board 4 - 5 times weekly or send me a PM. I want us to have a fun time with this.

Happy sewing!
CherylW

Hello ladies. This my first Row Robin and I am looking forward to getting to know all of you as we go along. Like CherylW I have a few ideas going around. How would you all feel about Snow globes? They would not have to be "winter" globes, just something interesting in the globe part.
If that doesn't work for all of you I will come up with something else.
Paula

Dragonfly Nana 09-18-2012 03:54 AM

Well, the globes are out - they are too small and larger one would not be as cute. I will think on it today and come up with something new and let you know.

I like the idea of adding our sashing when the rows come home. Scrapper - have you come up with a theme for yours yet?

@cuppy I did a dog themed quilt for my niece when she graduated last year so I have a couple neat ideas for blocks for you!

cuppy 09-18-2012 04:54 AM

I will like what ever you choose. I had a german shepherd when I was a child, then I had 2 chihuahuas, and 2 chinese sharpeis. I adore the scottie dog(quilt dog) I like all dog and puppy fabric, dog houses, all blocks with doggy fabrics
.My row is rather simple, I am waiting on fabric I ordered, should be here any day. I did a row robin several years ago, theme was Kentucky Derby!! Hubby is from Kentucky, What a beautiful quilt, horses and hats.. maybe will try to post a photo.

cuppy

Dragonfly Nana 09-18-2012 02:46 PM

Oooh cuppy - please post the KD quilt pics - it sound lovely.

I have decided to do a star theme and call it Twinkle, Twinkle. There are so many ways to make star blocks that it should make for a wonderful row robin.

I wonder where our other two members are?

CherylW 09-19-2012 06:39 AM

Dragonfly -

I love your idea of a star theme. So much can be done with that. Will have to start looking for good fabrics for stars. But then again, need to firm up my theme.

Cheryl

Dragonfly Nana 09-19-2012 02:11 PM

Thanks Cheryl What are you thinking about doing? Maybe we can help with ideas.

Also, I like the idea of sharing pictures as we go. Once I have a couple of my blocks made I will post them but I have to finish a couple things before I can start on them.

Qbee 09-19-2012 03:01 PM

Question.....it's a very long story but would any of you ladies be willing to switch groups with another lady?
I'd really appreciate it :)

Dragonfly Nana 09-19-2012 04:22 PM

I will volunteer

Group - please don't take offense I just hate to hear about problems.

Qbee 09-19-2012 04:34 PM

Hi Ladies :)

Sorry for stealing Dragonfly Nana away from you, but VERY thankful she was willing to switch groups with me. The other group was GREAT all very nice ladies, but my sister, who I share a house with, also was in that group...to save ourselves tears, sweat & bloodshed, we stopped quilting with each other several years ago :) Being in the same group and one after the other was not a good combination. Poor QBee, what a great Swap leader for getting me moved so quickly. Completely my fault for not thinking to tell her we couldn't be in the same group!

I'm good with leaving rows unattached to added sashing between each row :)

My original theme was blue roses...but I'm considering a change. I'll let you know if my shopping trip next week changes the theme or not!

Thanks again for having me!!
Shana

Scrapper 09-19-2012 06:50 PM

Here I am!! :p Greetings my new found round row robin ghoul friends! This is my first round rowing' hee hee and can't wait to get started. I like the idea of adding sashing when it comes home. I'm always afraid of asking/expecting too much.

Now for mee theme.....I am doing a scrap/leftover/sample/practice block type of quilt. I would like everyone to use those blocks/pieces you kept but often asked yourself why and then answered yourself that you just couldn't bear to toss it out. The theme is no theme LOL. Just dig out those blocks/practice pieces and create something 12 1/2 x 60 that can be attached. Doesn't hv to be pieced blocks it can be a piece of machine or hand embroidery etc. please do not stress out whether it will match etc. This will be a TRUE SCRAP quilt  Made from all those precious pieces we just couldn't throw out but had no use for them.

That's mee theme and I'm sticking to it LOL

CherylW 09-19-2012 07:00 PM

Shana - Welcome to the group! We are more than happy to have you.

Scrapper - I love your theme. I will have to see what I have in my bin (the block graveyard!).

Ladies - I do think that right before we get ready to mail our rows we should do a final post with instructions about sashing, not attaching, or whatever special needs are. I will then cut and paste all of the info into 1 PM so you can keep it separate and handy for future reference. How does that sound?

Just finished a baby quilt today and need to do a couple of table runners and then I will figure out my theme. Batiks is running through my mind as well as holidays. Or maybe months - a block to symbolize each month with 2 - 3 months in each row. Have to think more on that.

Sew Happy!
CherylW

Shana 09-19-2012 07:48 PM

Since so many of us already have completed 1st rows are will soon are we going to ship when we are ready or wait until the 'due' date? For me the piecing is the easier step and tends to go very quickly, it's the actual quilting process that I'm slow at lol

Shana 09-20-2012 05:23 AM

Cuppy, Your quilt is right up my alley too! lol I do large breed dog rescue :) I have 11 dogs at my house at this moment. Crossing my fingers it doesn't become 12...but I think there is a boston terror headed my way today, but she is suppose to be short term ONLY. lol While my rescue is suppose to focus on large & giant breeds right now I've got everything from a 15lb. Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix to a 110 lb. Great Pyrenees-Mastiff mix :) :) Looking forward to working on your quilt lol have so many ideas!!

cuppy 09-20-2012 02:17 PM

I am happy everyone will enjoy doing a row with dog theme. My starter row is a bit simple but will begin the theme of the quilt.

Scrapper, I can just go ahead and work on your row... I have plenty of orphan blocks! I think I will like your scrappy quilt.
I should have my fabric I ordered any day and thenn I will complete my row.

If you insist I can communicate :P lol I'm still wibble-wobbling a bit...my original theme is blue roses, but I'm thinking about expanding it to be "Blue Flowers" lol I've seen some BEAUTIFUL stuff lately that makes me want to expand...what do ya'll think, is blue flowers easier for you than blue roses?

CherylW 09-27-2012 06:53 PM

Shana - I think blue flowers is an excellent idea. A little broader and I think you will get a tremendous quilt when it is done.

Still have not heard from debfaye yet. I PM'd her today so hope to hear from her in the next couple of days.

I'm still undecided as to my theme too. Hope to have it decided by the end of the weekend.

Hope everyone is doing well. Can't believe October 1st is Monday. Have a great weekend!

Anybody ready to post pics of their beginning squares or completed row? Would love to see some!

Qbee 10-03-2012 03:36 PM

So....how are y'all coming along. Has everyone checked in?? If not, please PM me ASAP. Thanks!! :D

Shana 10-05-2012 10:40 PM

Sorry, I'm not being very 'vocal' on this thread! :( Life has been CRAZY the last few weeks, so many things to do that I'm not even sure where to start! Discovered that one of my rescue dogs is going to have puppies, and I don't have anyone to blame but myself!

I have my row planned out in my head, just have to find the last fabric before I get started on it(after I put the sewing room back together of course lol).

cuppy 10-05-2012 11:35 PM

I need to put my sewing studio back together , go fabric shopping. I ordered fabric, well it will be used for backing. I will go to the fabric store again.....I will have company this week, no sewing for me.

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick note. I'm up to my eyeballs getting ready for vacation, leaving friday morning for the coast of Maine and will be back on the 22nd. I'm taking the laptop so I will get caught up on the thread. I'm so excited to join your group. Thank you so much for having me. My 1st row robin! Thinking about sampler blocks in Civil War reproduction fabrics. How's that sound to all of you? Do you think that's something doable? I know some swappers work from their stash so I don't want anyone to feel they have to go buy fabric.

Yea! another Buckeye :)

Scrapper 10-10-2012 10:40 AM

Welcome oldcatlady.....ha! HAVE to go buy fabric? LOL I'd be surprised if there's a quilter on earth that HAS to buy fabric....heehee

I like your theme.....and have a great vacation.........

Ok Ladies, I'm probably showing signs of OCD, but mee can't help it....LOL

I have the following as themes: if it's not correct please let me know as I'd like to start sorting fabric/ideas for each of you as your RR makes it to my doorstep....with the holidays around the corner....just want to be a little prepared

CHERYLW: not decided
OLDCATLADY: civil war sampler
SCRAPPER: scraps
CUPPY: dogs and pupplies
SHANA: blue flowers/roses - is this firm or do we need clarification

Thanks........

cuppy 10-10-2012 07:19 PM

Dogs and Puppies for me. I will be on Vacation this upcoming week, I am still shopping for fabric for my row robin. I seen it in a shop and now need to go purchase,if it is not there any more I will start shopping again. There is so much dog and puppy fabrics, tough decision. I have civil war fabrics, need to gather a bit more, will need to gather roses/blue roses, and scrap blocks I have plentiful. and Cheryl W, I need to know your theme,so I can begin collecting and sorting your fabrics, themes can come from your hobbies, favorite colors, things you like to collect ,or your passion. Can hardly wait to find out...

Blue Flower/Roses is good with me :) not sure if I have any civil war repos in my stash lol but if I don't it is no burden to pick up a few pieces :) :) My computer is down..again...so I'm only able to pop in once a week or so, but you can send me a PM which go to my phone via email if you need me for anything

OldCatLady Welcome to the group!! :)

oldcatlady 10-17-2012 02:58 PM

I'm loving my vacation in Maine. I have stopped at 2 fabric stores so far. :) Loaded up on lighthouses/shells/seashore/starfish/sailboats. Lovely fabric from Marcus Brothers/Timeless Treasures/Elizabeth's Studio(which I love!) and a few others.

Thanks for the welcomes! :):):)

CherylW 10-17-2012 06:50 PM

Hi to all!

I have finally decided on my theme - batiks. I bought enough fabric to send everyone a fat quarter to use to keep a little consistancy throughout the rows. I will also be including some sashing to go between rows.

My question for everyone is this: do you want me to send you the fat quarter now or do you want to get it with the row? Majority will be the method! I hope to get a square or two done next week and will post a picture when I do.

Hope everyone is doing well. oldcatlady your fabrics sound great, should make into a beautiful quilt.

Scrapper and cuppy would love to see pictures if you have started on your rows. Shana hope your computer problems are short lived.

Take care all!

oldcatlady 10-18-2012 06:08 AM

do we make whatever blocks we want as long as they go with the theme if not specifically mentioned?

I like the idea of seeing the blocks early so we can get an idea of what we want to do or to get fabric.

CherylW - are you leaning toward a specific color of batiks? I have a lot in my stash already. I'm OK with whatever you decide about the fat quarters.

Scrapper 10-23-2012 06:55 AM

It all sounds so exciting I can't wait to see everyone's projects......they're going to be BEAUTIFUL!

Shana 10-29-2012 05:03 AM

CherylW, I would rather have the fat quarter come with the top...if it comes seperate I'm afraid I'll put it "some where safe" and never find it!

Cat Lady - My understanding was that we could do what ever we wanted as long as it fit the theme of the quilt...someone tell me now if that isn't right!!

Unfortunately my laptop sleeps with the fishes lol borrowing/sharing with my sister until I'm able to get a new one sometime around Christmas...maybe if I'm lucky a bit earlier. When I get my center finished I'll post pictures of it, but it probably won't be until close to Thanksgiving!

cuppy 10-30-2012 06:20 AM

I do not have capabilities to post photo I will see if I can get some help.

cuppy

CherylW 11-01-2012 08:31 AM

All right everyone - 1 month until your 1st row needs to be mailed. I will send a PM to everyone with the list of addresses and where you need to be sending your row. I should have pics this weekend of my squares.

Hope everyone is doing well and weathered the storms ok. Lots of wind here but I missed it by being in Las Vegas visiting my brother. 80's and sunny the whole time. Oh well, now back to real life - 30's and overcast!

If anyone is having any problems - be sure to let me know and I will see what I can do to help.

Have fun!

Scrapper 11-01-2012 09:19 AM

Hi CherylW......I have a problem......I have to stinkin' work instead of just playing in mee sewing stuff.....LOL, just fool'n around.....:D

Actually, I'm excited to see the work of others and get started on something for someone other me-self.......I'm ready to mail, but will post a picture of my "graveyard" block row (ok ok, I stole that phrase "block graveyard" from you....it fit so perfectly ) before I do......
