Sign up for December 2012 Doll Quilt Swap -

Sign up time for the December 2012 Quilting Board 40th Doll Quilt Swap!

Everyone is welcome to join us no matter what your skill level may be.
Making and sharing doll quilts offers a wonderful opportunity to try new techniques, use up scraps in your stash – or an excuse to buy new fabric – and it’s a great way to make new quilty friends.

Many may know, but for those who don't.... Krystyna was in the direct path of Hurricane Sandy and asked for a volunteer to take over the Doll Quilt Swap until she is able to return. She is fine but the same cannot be said for her home. She has a long way to go to get back to some sense of normal.

I know last year we do not do a swap in December but many are asking and want to continue swapping, and I am willing to host it so....The December Swap is on!

Here are the details. I know they are long and boring, but please read them. Really!

As always, rules for this swap also agree with the general guidelines for all Quilt Board Swaps – Read here RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010

Decemer 2012 - Doll Quilt Swap #40 – The Big 4 0

Theme: The Blues of Winter – or The Big Four O !
This month you have several choices for your quilt. For The Blues of Winter -- this can be anything
using different hues of blues OR something related to winter . For example snow, snowman, icicles, sledding, fireplaces, hot chocolate, or traveling to warmer climates to escape winter! (does not have to be blue)
Then in honor of this being our 40th Doll Quilt Swap or as some might say The Big 4 0. SO in keeping with that in mind you could do something in FOURS, 4 patch, 4 colors, 4 snowmans or 4 any objects or shapes. And, as always, it can be sender’s choice. In all instances, please communicate with your partners!

SIGN UP: Easy As 1-2-3 - 4
1. To join the fun, just send me (quiltingkrazy) a PM no later than NOON (EST) on November 30, 2012.
2. You will not be able to sign up if you have any outstanding quilts from previous months
3.Please let me know whether you are able to swap internationally as we have a few members who are outside the USA.
4.Let me know you have read the guidelines and make sure your QB mailbox isn’t full.

Partner Assignment: Partners will be assigned on November 30st. Find your partner at our Group Home here http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html - If there are any problems, please send me a PM.

Mailing Deadline: You must have your quilt in the mail no later than Decemer 30th. If you do not think you can meet that deadline, you might want to wait a month or two until your schedule frees up and you don’t feel pressured.

DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES

SIZE:
Doll quilts can be between 12”x12” to 24”x24” or any size or shape in between. If your finished quilt measures 24" x 26", or 11" x 13" it's fine. No worries or excessive rules for this swap.

MATERIALS: Most participants use cotton, but you can use any other natural fiber like wool, linen or silk.

EMBELLISHMENTS: Let your creativity rule. Add beads, buttons, ribbon, lace, rickrack, or whatever if you feel like it. Or add nothing at all. It’s up to you.

CONSTRUCTION: Pick your technique. Doll quilts may be pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, quilted by hand or quilted by machine. All quilts should have binding.

LABEL: Please add a label or sign your quilt on the back with your name and the date. It is a wonderful record of your work and years from now, it will help your partner remember who made this magnificent work of art! If your quilt is reversible and you don’t want to sign it, please include a card or attach a removable tag with your Quilting Board name or real name if different.

MANNERS: Don’t for get to thank your partner. A simple post on the thread for the month is terrific, but a PM is nicer still. Please leave feedback for your partner.

HELP YOUR HOSTESS KEEP TRACK: When you mail off your quilt, please send me a PM. Also send one when you receive a quilt you’re your partner. This will help me keep track and to ensure that everyone receives a quilt.

PHOTOS: At the Quilting Board we love photos! A big part of the doll quilt fun is seeing what everyone has created, but as with most things in life, there is a little etiquette to follow. Usually the receiver will post a photo, but not everyone has a camera, so please photograph your quilt before you send it just in case. Don’t post a photo until your partner receives your quilt so the surprise won’t be spoiled. If you cannot post a photo, please ask your partner to do so.

PARTNERS: Once sign up has ended, I will assign partners. I will try to pair you with someone you haven’t had as a swap partner previously. You will make a quilt for your partner and s/he will make one for you. Please PM your partner to share physical addresses. Do not post addresses on this thread. Although there is a theme and it is often sender’s choice, it is always nice to ask if your partner has any preferences.

COMMUNICATION: If something unexpected comes up and for any reason you cannot meet the deadline or need to drop out of the swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you take the time to communicate any difficulties, I can make sure things work out favorably for you and your partner with no hard feelings as a result. If, however, you just disappear off the face of the earth, you will not be permitted to participate in future swaps until you make good on your commitment.

DOLL QUILT GROUP – Besides this thread, there is a Doll Quilt group on the Quilting Board. There you can upload photos, start discussions on ideas for themes, share resources about techniques for doll quilts and other mini quilts, and whatever you want to do. It’s your group, so you decide!

JuanitaBean 11-19-2012 11:46 PM

They said last month that the theme might be tree's so I started working on one so it would be ready for Dec. dq. But my partner can do what ever she likes. I just like doing these DQ. Thanks Juanita

HAPPY THANKSGIVEN TO ALL

Elisabrat 11-20-2012 12:22 AM

oh I like trees! find me one person who doesnt like trees? seriously doubt they are out there. If the tree is Christmas its specific if its trees well then everyone loves trees. me love all of them :)

I am in. Glad to trade whatever my partner wants to trade can be done mid december so just hollar and I will whip it up! I want to know has anyone been in this the whole 40 trades? that would be a LOT of dq's! This months theme is sure open to tons of interpretations! ps I never sign my dq's this thing about writing on them in anyway just sorta doesnt work for me. All that work then a label. So I dont forget to do this for you I simply dont like them. my quirk.

QuiltingKrazy 11-20-2012 09:38 AM

I'm glad to know you like trees Elisabrat! My favorites are this time of year when the sugar maples turn all yellow and orange and red. December can really be anything you want! I just try to choose something that can go in different directions depending on each person.

Hey I would love to hear from any of the DQ swappers who have been all the swaps or even most all the swaps! SO speak up people if you have been doing this for a long time! My hats off to those that have!

mooretll 11-20-2012 10:48 AM

I'm in again. Love these dq swaps.

Nancy in Louisiana 11-20-2012 03:15 PM

OK -- I liked the tree idea too -- so, I'll do a tree in four colors or maybe four blue trees??? Anyway, it'll be fun and I'm looking forward to it.

I am doing trees but probably Christmas trees so I had better get on them right away. Unless I do four stockings which would be cute too or perhaps four presents, or four calling birds.. or heck options options options. I do not have enough blue to do four blue ones. so perhaps a "FOR you" hey its 4 right? oh open open open can I have a partner now so I can figure out what they want? I know turkeys in santa hats! everyone needs THAT. your own turkey parade!

Come on Tricia, I wasn't going to do another DQ but just didn't have the willpower to stop - this swap is just too darn addictive and I decided I couldn't just lurk - I gotta be in the middle of all the fun ! So if I can do it, you can too :)

buslady 11-25-2012 12:59 PM

So busy. Don't know how I'll ever catch up, but the thought of missing a month is unfathomable. Dec will be 8, I think.

Judith1005 11-25-2012 07:45 PM

I'm in again Lisa. PM sent. I've read the rules.

I love the theme suggestions. I'm also good with trees.

I'm going on swap 13 for me. I've received sooo many fun quilts by so many talented quilters. A big thanks goes out to all of you. This is such a fun swap.

A big thank you also goes out to you Lisa for stepping in for our fearless leader. Your our doll quilt swap angel!!

Elisabrat 11-25-2012 08:58 PM

Lynnie Yahoo!!! cooking? who needs that? housework bah humbug if you are sewing how will you notice it needs doing right? never bothers me when I am sewing try it and see!.

Tricia, Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you. Sign up and have some more fun. The chat is worth it alone.

AND SHOW US WHERE YOUR FROM? is that that January Theme? was it Lynnie who said that? if that is the theme then let me know right away. Where your from.. so many things that could be too. like immediately where your from? or statewide/country where your from? ie I live in the mountains so that is immediate, I live in CA which is a much bigger area to define in one wall hanging. so many options. Curiosity.. who decides the theme and how is that decided? I never asked that question.

So if your ready to receive it I will be ready to send it soon as I get your name. I made a holiday block abstractly fitting in the them of four.. ..

QuiltingKrazy 11-26-2012 06:37 AM

Well, I'm not sure who made the final decision on what the theme would be for past months, but I know most recently it was kinda a joint effort between swappers offering suggestions! SO... with that being said, I am assuming that Krystyna will not be ready to take back over the Jan swap, so i will continue with it. AND that being said.......I am taking ANY suggestions for themes for 2013 months! IF y'all want to change from what last years. just let me know!

mooretll 11-26-2012 11:01 AM

I have started my top and it is a Christmas Angel i hope my partner will be ok with that it is just to cute. I made her with the rose of sharon accuquilt die. I could add a tree or two if need be.LOL
