Sign Up for November 2012 Doll Quilt Swap - Thanksgiving or I'm Thankful For ?
Sign up time for the November 2012 Quilting Board 39th Doll Quilt Swap!
Everyone is welcome to join us no matter what your skill level may be. Making and sharing doll quilts offers a wonderful opportunity to try new techniques, use up scraps in your stash – or an excuse to buy new fabric – and it’s a great way to make new quilty friends. Here are the details. I know they are long and boring, but please read them. Really! As always, rules for this swap also agree with the general guidelines for all Quilt Board Swaps – Read here http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html Doll Quilt Swap #39 – November 2012 Theme: Thankfulness – This month we celebrate Thanksgiving – one of my favorite holidays! You can do a traditionally themed Thanksgiving design – but remember – you will need to get it to your partner BEFORE Thanksgiving so she doesn't have to store it for a year! OR you can do a quilt that expresses the theme of thankfulness – for family, friends, and especially for Quilty Friends! Or, as always, it can be sender’s choice. In all instances, please communicate with your partners! SIGN UP: Easy As 1-2-3 - 4 1. To join the fun, just send me a PM no later than NOON (EST) on October 31, 2012. 2. You will not be able to sign up if you have any outstanding quilts from previous months 3. Please let me know whether you are able to swap internationally as we have a few members who are outside the USA. 4. Let me know you have read the guidelines and make sure your QB mailbox isn’t full. Partner Assignment: Partners will be assigned on October 31st. Find your partner at our Group Home here http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html - If there are any problems, please send me a PM. Mailing Deadline: You must have your quilt in the mail no later than November 30th. PLEASE – if you plan on making a Thanksgiving quilt – be sure your partner gets it well BEFORE Thanksgiving! If you do not think you can meet that deadline, you might want to wait a month or two until your schedule frees up and you don’t feel pressured. DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES SIZE: Doll quilts can be between 12”x12” to 24”x24” or any size or shape in between. If your finished quilt measures 24" x 26", or 11" x 13" it's fine. No worries or excessive rules for this swap. MATERIALS: Most participants use cotton, but you can use any other natural fiber like wool, linen or silk. EMBELLISHMENTS: Let your creativity rule. Add beads, buttons, ribbon, lace, rickrack, or whatever if you feel like it. Or add nothing at all. It’s up to you. CONSTRUCTION: Pick your technique. Doll quilts may be pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, quilted by hand or quilted by machine. All quilts should have binding. LABEL: Please add a label or sign your quilt on the back with your name and the date. It is a wonderful record of your work and years from now, it will help your partner remember who made this magnificent work of art! If your quilt is reversible and you don’t want to sign it, please include a card or attach a removable tag with your Quilting Board name or real name if different. MANNERS: Don’t for get to thank your partner. A simple post on the thread for the month is terrific, but a PM is nicer still. Please leave feedback for your partner. HELP YOUR HOSTESS KEEP TRACK: When you mail off your quilt, please send me a PM. Also send one when you receive a quilt you’re your partner. This will help me keep track and to ensure that everyone receives a quilt. PHOTOS: At the Quilting Board we love photos! A big part of the doll quilt fun is seeing what everyone has created, but as with most things in life, there is a little etiquette to follow. Usually the receiver will post a photo, but not everyone has a camera, so please photograph your quilt before you send it just in case. Don’t post a photo until your partner receives your quilt so the surprise won’t be spoiled. If you cannot post a photo, please ask your partner to do so. PARTNERS: Once sign up has ended, I will assign partners. I will try to pair you with someone you haven’t had as a swap partner previously. You will make a quilt for your partner and s/he will make one for you. Please PM your partner to share physical addresses. Do not post addresses on this thread. Although there is a theme and it is often sender’s choice, it is always nice to ask if your partner has any preferences. COMMUNICATION: If something unexpected comes up and for any reason you cannot meet the deadline or need to drop out of the swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you take the time to communicate any difficulties, I can make sure things work out favorably for you and your partner with no hard feelings as a result. If, however, you just disappear off the face of the earth, you will not be permitted to participate in future swaps until you make good on your commitment. DOLL QUILT GROUP – Besides this thread, there is a Doll Quilt group on the Quilting Board. There you can upload photos, start discussions on ideas for themes, share resources about techniques for doll quilts and other mini quilts, and whatever you want to do. It’s your group, so you decide! Join here http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html |

By the way ... the requirement that you not have any outstanding quilts doesn't mean from this month since the deadline isn't here yet. It was mean for those who are really, really, really late.
sign me up sending a PM now, thanks
I'll join this one.
Been thinking and thinking and thinking on this one. NOTHING pops into my head that I can do. I am thankfull for so very much, how do you put all that on a tiny quilt? It's not as easy as pumpkins and witches. Sooooooo, I need time to think some more!! I know I will not be able to resist. I am hooked. And not interested in any 12 step programs or anything. Cause I like this obsession. LOL
Me too...cannot resist!
I would like to sign up also, will send pm. I know what I am thankful for, Chicken soup and a big box of tissues, warm feet and niquil, in hopes that one day very soon I will be able to talk normal and breathe right! (recovering from the Crud I picked up while on vacation!)
Marybeth |
I am in......Thanksgiving is a very special time and my DQ is almost done for NOV as I will be in Australia from NOv. 6 to DEC and will not (sigh) be celebrating thanksgiving. So my partner whoever she or he may be will get their quilt very early in November. Already PM'd you.
Oh Marybeth hope this didn't interfer with your run. Get well soon. I hate having the creepy crud. Me I have been battling allergies. Wish they would go away.
There is a nasty crud going around!! Keep yourself hydrated!!
Thanks Barb, I hope it won't The run is on Nov 4th, If I can get out and run by Friday I should be OK. I am using Musinex hopefully it will get rid of it fast!
I was thinking for this DQ month I am really going to step out on a limb and do a soft art picture. I will be experimenting a little this week, since I am now the one home alone, with lots of time to just feel better! I love the theme for November, Being Thankful will be a fun subject to work with! |
Welcome home booger nose kid! WE MISSED YOU. Your tougher than a cold you have worked so hard for this run have faith. I do. It is usually the first four or five days that suck the most then your just counting til its over. no fun. add whiskey to that hot coffee help with the cough and all :) sleep also helps with that too.
Still sitting on the fence this month. I pulled out some turkey fabric if that counts as truly thinking about it. AND NO PUSHING FROM BEHIND ME either to get me to sign up. I know those sneaky tricks. on to you guys.. thinking thinking.. |
i refuse to think on this one, and that's what i'm grateful for--no thoughts in my head, and no snot either! but will be getting the shingles shot--yuck! already had my flu shot. no allergic reaction this year since i got the one without the stuff i'm allergic to. yay! when my partner tells me what they are thankful for i will then get to work. in one week i will be headed for dallas to see my little cocopuff! she is the brightest star in my sky! it was nice of her parents to make her for me! they should make another one, for themselves! lol! yes, there's room in my heart for about a dozen more!! at least!:p:D
Nancia, do get that shingles shot. Melissa, my son's fiancee, is 28 years old and she has shingles!!! She was supposed to start a new job on Saturday but on Friday morning she woke up with disgusting blisters on her abdomen. Blech.
Elisabrat ... turkey fabric! Sounds like you're halfway there ... |
OOOOHHHHH! what a good idea. Wait to see what your partner is thankful for. I was thinking of all the stuff I was. And that was just getting out of control. How to narrow it down. You know what, I have until mid November so I guess I will join this month!! Maybe sister can help me decide. I have seen people with shingles and heard the horror stories. I am getting the shot on Nov 3 along with the flu shot. When we had our store, I worked on Sundays and there was a sweet heart of a gentleman that came in for the Sunday paper. He had been fighting shingles for months. He said it was awful and his doctor gave him everything known and he did some holistic stuff, as well, I believe. That poor man nearly cried just talking about the pain.

And here are your tips ... if you don't want to do plain old Thanksgiving ... I am thankful for the internet which not only allows me to earn a living ... but has brought me all of YOU! :) My darling quilty friends! |
I'm in. Just did the October swap and have made friends with my swap partner. Boy was I fortunate, not only did she send me a beautiful quilt, but we have corresponded about our love of dolls.
krystyna-- have you posted november partners already? man, this year just flew by!!
i am also thankful for the friends on the quilting board! always someone just a fingerstroke away! |
partners already? Wow, you have to much time on your hands, would you like some of my list of to dos so I can catch up? How about you take my tiller, after only three summers using, blew up, to the dealer and tell them what they should do, GIVE ME NEW ONE!
No, no partners yet. I just decided who is going to be MY partner!
On a related note, since it looks like Hurricane Sandy is going to turn into Frankenstorm and will be headed right for the sandbar we live on ... literally a sandbar ... you can Google Long Beach, NY to see where we are ... QuiltingKrazy is going to step in as alternate hostess since the posting date is after the storm passes through and I'm assuming I will not have power. So a big old thank you for her assistance. Everyone else in the path of this monster, be safe! |
krystyna-- will have you in my thoughts and prayers especially. and will hope none of your neighbors are affected adversely. looks like it's going to be a harrowing weekend and early week for the east coast.
Oh boy! Y'all better have patience with me while I try to fill in for Krystyna! I'll do my best at hosting with my "Southern Style Charm Y'all!" :D
