Default Repeat a Boom NEw New New - Signups Closed

Many of you have asked for this type of a boom so here goes. This is my first time every hosting a swap so bear with me as I learn how to do this right. Patrice suggested that I do 12 people to start with so I will close this after I get 12 people to join. I figure that 2 months would be amble time but if the participants feel that it should be longer just pm me and I will consider it. I want to start in February and it would end in April. You will select a pattern from the quilter's cache and then pick your material.
Example: Say that I want a blue and white quilt and I choose a star pattern. I would send the blue fabric to my group members with the pattern name. They would add the white. Then send it back.
There are many lovely patterns that one can choose from that make gorgeous quilts when put together. Or maybe I decided on a flower quilt with pink flowers. I would send the material out and then request a color to go with it. Or you can send a solid color and ask for a print. It would be up to youl

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11). You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block that you have selected from quilter’s cache with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010 )
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make 12 blocks.
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore making a specific block for someone. You will gain experience making blocks that you might not have selected on your own.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

Love ya all,
Barb

I am required to insist that all participants send me verification of shipment, to include tracking information.
Participants are required to ensure packages will not arrive “postage due.”

According to the new rules of mailing and tracking our packages. I think this is the easiest way to do it. Use a flat rate envelop ($5.60) and put your material in it with the names of the individuals they are to go to. Send them to me. Also include another flat rate envelop, with postage, and your address on it. When I get all of the envelops for each person I will mail it out to them. When all are done, we will do the process again. this will save us all a bundle of money in mailing individual with tracking.

I would join but I am concerned I would be asked to make hard blocks (for me). The previous booms permitted me to make simple blocks. If you asked me to make 12 complex stars, I'd go nuts!! Good luck & have fun. I think I am dropping out of swaps and focusing on my own ideas. But it is tempting to play!

A couple of questions.

1. Other than choosing the block pattern, is this swap otherwise identical to the Boomerang 11 swap that's about to start? It looks like it is, but I just wanted to make sure.

2. Regarding the patterns: What if someone chooses a block pattern that's too difficult for newer quilters? Do all the patterns have to come from Quilter's Cache? I noticed that Quilter's Cache has difficulty ratings beside the patterns. Will there be a limit on the difficulty? What about paper-piecing patterns? Some people enjoy them; others, not so much.

Thanks bunches! I'll send a PM shortly. I like that this group size is small and more manageable.

again the mass mailing takes the fun out of it personally. I do not agree with sending everything at once no squishes forget it. its our fabric we should be able to ship at our own risk. The board is not responsible for the items anyways. I wish you lots of luck and I agree picking your block is way too hard for a lot of people. I don't paper piece, I hate doing three star blocks or greater so I might end up having to make something out of my league and it might end up not in the best shape which would not please anyone.

different strokes for different folks! I like this idea .... everything's so organized. All fabrics and blocks stay together. I'm hoping participants will be lenient in their block choices (star blocks includes variety of stars rather than a specific star to be made, paper pieced blocks includes all levels of skill, etc.) I'll take a look at this thread after the holidays to see what's going on with it. Thanks Barb!

I realize that the new rules are a little strict but it seems to me that it is like doing the blocks of the month swap ideas.
I have thought about what kind of blocks one may pick and because this is open to all levels of quilters, I have decided that there would be no paper piecing as that is totally a challenge for many people. I will admit that I think the blocks are lovely tho. I would want participants to select easy patterns that all could do.
Because this is a new group, I think that everyone here will give me ideas and input so that we can make it a great one. I am so flexible in many ways. It is similar to the boom group but with a twist.

Lisa, I have you signed up. Yah hoo my first participant.

No you do not have to pick quilters cache for your pattern but you do have to make sure that every member gets your pattern. So where ever you get it from you would have to make sure that the members can also find it or you can make copies for the instructions and send it with your material.

Happy quilting,
Barb
