We are starting our second month for this swap! Yeah! You can post pics of your fabrics here and let your partner see what you are thinking of doing or what colors you are wanting in your quilt block.

Please post a pic of the quilt block you receive so we can all enjoy them!!

Go forth and create ladies!!

I am still selecting fabrics and studying my wings blocks book. One question: What happens with the fabric grain? I am assuming it sorts itslef out, but I am not picturing it.

I had that asked before and I went back and did a 2 1/2" block. I don't think it matters as long as you don't stretch the fabric.

I have since developed paper templates that take the place of the directions in the book. I think they are easier than the originals.

Take a look at them and see what you think. They are not paper piecing but more like a dress pattern. You cut out the templates then lay them on the fabric and cut out your fabric. Then sew the two left ones together and the two right ones together. Trim the edges that will be sewn together so they are straight and then sew the two halves together into a 4 patch. Lay your hard acrylic (with a grid) template on the center matching the corners to the seams and cut out your Wings block from the center. Easy no angles to figure out no or little waste.

I developed the first set and they were bigger than needed for a 2 1/2" template. I used them anyway for the tutorial. So the second or updated set of templates fit the 2 1/2" with less waste than you see in the tutorial.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Thank you ever so much 2 1/2 is my favorite size unit to work with. When I keep with one size the different units can 'play' with each other  in a quilt that is :XD:
