Any input on what is the best way to ship these doll quilts and goodies? Also what has the cost been to foreign countries like England, Australia and Canada? I just wonder for the future. Is the cost the main reason people do not swap out of country? I hope it is OK to ask all these questions.

Annaquilts, I have been swapping dolls quilts from Australia mainly to the USA for over 2 years. It costs me around $15-$20 a month to send my little DQ from Australia to its new home. It usually takes about 10-14 days to get to its destination depending on the postal service (and public holidays, local delivery, etc) The postage does restrict me in what goodies I can include with my DQ but I feel the extras are an individual thing anyway and no swapper should be under pressure to include anything more than the DQ and a nice note.

The swap for me is all about meeting and getting to know quilters from around the world - the DQ I send/receive each month is just an added bonus

Annaquilts. I have participated in several oversea swaps and have not ever paid more than 8 dollars for postage...apparently, the US rate is less than European and Australian rates. One thing to thank the Post Office for, however, they just broke a CD I sent to someone, they are FARRRR from perfect. I love getting quilts from all over the world...thanks to all the people from over the pond for participating

I agree it is fun to meet people through swaps and I would like to do a foreign one sometime. That is why I am asking info about it. I just noticed a good number of people posting on swap boards that they do not want to do a foreign swap so I was wondering. I also have the feeling your cost is higher then ours would be sending form the USA to Australia.

I thought so, that it is less expensive to send from the USA to a foreign country then the other way around. I agree it would be fun to swap sometimes with quilters in a foreign country. Also thank you for those in foreign countries for participating.

I was llucky enough to get a couple of overseas swap partners recently. I was kind of worried about the cost, but it really was not that bad. I filled a large bubble lined envelope for each of them and it was under $20. One of them got there in less than a week. the other took nearly 2 weeks. I signed up for on line postage and found it to be much better than gioing to the PO. I had a package to ship last week, Mich to Oregon. Took it to the PO and they told me $36 to send it. I asked for the weight of the box, took it back with me and did the online postage and it was $24. The on line postage figures all the different ways to ship, the people behind the counter are sometimes just too lazy. I've found that it depends on who is working on any given day, what kind of service you will get. The problem with the on line postage is, the site I signed up for is $15.99 a month membership. I don't ship enough to warrant that. Does anyone know of a cheeper site? I thought I was at the USPS when I signed up, but the computer sometimes tricks you. Well, anyway, that is my 2 cents for what it is worth.

A quilt is done already yay!

I'll have to ask my hubs about shipping overseas the cheapest way. He send Bibles all over the world. Some countries are higher then others with taxes and just whatever other reason they come up with! April showers bring May flowers hint hint for April

I just sent my doll quilt partner a note that I will be working on her March DQ this week end! A lot of ideas rattling around in my head but I'm sure that'll change once I sit down at the sewing machine! I will use green fabric but probably not a St. Patrick's theme........hmmmmm I'm taking a Dresden plate orphan block to the long arm quilter tomorrow-I've only had them for ten years or more, I bought them at a thrift store and set them and added a border-feeling a bit on top of the world with that done-blessings...
