If you are making a block, try to use some blue for unity.

Good morning ladies. I just UpLoaded pictures from my cell phone onto my computer and that was a mistake, let me tell you!!!! I only have 300 pictures on my cell phone camera roll, but 2,525 pictures were uploaded and half the pics i didnt recognize the people in them. but i thought that i would share for Krystyna a few pictures of Long Beach and some of the effects of the hurricane!!! Update on K before i post them, she is still with her sister and my dear future father in law has been going from her sisters house to Long Beach to work everyday. Blaze and I were out this morning looking for gas, and saw a few FEMA trucks heading into the Long Beach area. We are still at my parents house, but went back to the house yesterday to get a few things for us and for Krystyna. She offically has all of her sewing machines with her at her sisters house and is feeling better about that!!!! and it will be a long time before things go back to normal. It will be months before our city would be able to go back to a little bit of normalcy, and there is still water in the crawl space under the house. They are going around and inspecting houses to and rating them green, yellow and red. OBVIOUSLY red is the worst and those in red will be helped first, but everyone in Long Beach will be getting help from FEMA. Just dont know when that will come and how long it will take. One of the pictures has red arrows and those arrows are pointing to the water level. I'm 5 foot even and the water level came up to the top of my shoulders. so it was between 4 and 5 feet high in the back yard. I dont know how high it got at the peak of the flooding inside the house I know it was around 3 to 4 feet, but i went to bed soon after the water started coming in and was around 2 feet in the home.

Dotty,

I can make a block for K but were you thinking about quilt's' - plural. If so I can make more blocks. I wouldn't be able to make a complete quilt but could do a lap quilt top and contribute some $ to help with batting and backing if someone would be willing to sandwich/quilt/bind it.Would love to help.

So if we all put some blue into the friendship quilt then it will coordinate with everything????? I am going to do my block today and probably mail it off today. I am on a fixed income but I will see if I can spare something to help. I know that money speaks volumes in an emergency.

Yes, we are making a quilt for Krystyna and also collecting quilts for her community. If you do a lap top quilt, I will get it quilted. I made a beautiful quilt from Boom 6, but I can part with it. I just looked thru UFO tops and found a few I can also give. I do not like to quilt and am spoiled by sending out for pro longarm work. But I can do this and some motivation goes a long way. Please put your name on anything you contribute! TY Dotty

Having faced the aftermath of a major storm, I know what a hurricane is capable of. Being totally disorientated while struggling down your own street is a very scarey feeling. Rita hit hard in Lake Charles. At first you will experience shock and that feeling of being totally overwhelmed. You WILL suffer at least one major meltdown -- don't deny any feelings of loss, grief, anger. Get it out. Then look around at those you love, thank God for them, and then try to pull out a sense of humor. Hard to believe, but things will get better. FEMA and the Natl Guard and the Red Cross will soon be visible. Watching our Govt in action will definitely bring a smile to your face -- lots of fun to watch (for example, how many FEMA workers does it take to spray paint a yellow spot on a tree?) There is definitely an element in our society that knows how to play the system and will "take" whatever whenever and as much as they can. I can tell your horror stories of gifts given in good faith that were sneered at as "not good enough". But on the flip side, you will receive aid from some of the most unexpected sources -- and you will develop bonds with your friends and neighbors as y'all work thru this. And no matter how bad is seems, it could be worse -- we were without power for almost 21 days, the temp outside was 112 degrees, the mosquitos were big enough to butcher and were starving, and there were 10-day-old dead fish all over my yard that attracted my dogs like magnets. The water mocossins were swimming around by the front doorjam which was an almost good thing since so were the looters. They evened each other out. But in a few months when you can look back at all this, you will be surprised at how things do get put back together. Just tell yourself, "This is all a test..." Remember, what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger. And I'm willing to bet that when all is said and done, your priorities have shifted somewhat. You're not alone, and therein lies the power and path to recovery.
