I have to make 65 aprons to take to the Ukraine, elderly ministry. Does anyone have any suggestions to help the process go smoother and where to get cheaper fabric.

Goodwill stores sells fabric that people have donated and prices are cheap. Even taking the clothing and cutting it up can make aprons as well. Good Luck to you. You are a fabulous person to be so thoughtful

I am 1/4 Ukranian and am intrigued. Is this an American Church Ministry ? Or are they going to the Ukraine ? My aunts used to send boxes to family over there but then postage got so high, they couldn't afford it anymore. I go to yard sales and people are so generous with fabic. 65 doesn't sound like many. Recruit friends. Put notes on belletin borads. People have fabric at home they would love to share. Even old linens. We all have too much stuff.

I remember our first project in home-ec (late 60's here) was an apron.
We hemmed a square on 3 sides, then folded over the top a little wider and stitched it down for a sleeve. We then had those plastic waist hoops made for that reason and just slid our little apron onto the plastic.

Our second project used a little bigger square, we folded up the bottom to about 4-5 inches below the waist band, stitched down it in three places for nice deep pockets and then stitched ties to the top two edges. Easy Peasy, and both work with every fabric you can think of.

What I'm wondering ByThePiece, is if even the elderly in the Ukraine still use enough aprons to make it worth the time and shipping.
I'll bet they would snap up a yard of fabric though...

The elderly in the Ukraine definitely use aprons, they wear them all day. I make quilts for the Ukraine (70 last year)
and to do this is such a blessing to them and to me. They are very thankful for what they receive and it does
not matter what kind of fabric or what design it is.

God started a ministry for me five years ago. I have a heart for the elderly and felt led to go to the Ukraine to minister to them. We had a family from the Ukraine visit our church and that is how I found out about it. We go to Borslav every year now for five years. This year will be my sixth year. I visit the elderly in their homes and deliver food and some needed supplies. I have come to love these people like family. They have blessed my life. We are going back in June of 2013. Another lady at my church felt led to start a women's ministry and this will be our third year to bring Bible studies, and a womens' retreat for the ladies. All age groups attend young and old, and we have seen God working in their lives tremendously. I get so excited when I talk about this. Are you from around Borslav or Tustevettes. I am sure my spelling is all wrong. Please let me know where your home town is.
