Good for you for designing the cut out so that you can see and communicate into the next room. I personally hate to be cut off from the rest of the house, although I know some folks feel differently. My sewing space is in our family room, so my hubby and I can watch sports together, even if I'm sewing. It works for us!

Good luck on seeing lots of progress soon.

A year ago my husband and I decided to take the family room which was in the lower part of our raised ranch and split the room in half. In order to separate the space a friend gave up 4 book shelves which we put two of them side to side and the other two back to back creating a half of a wall so to speak. It has worked out lovely for both of us and we each have our own space. But in a years time I have managed to buy lots of stuff and find I am running out of room. I am very organized so I know it is just a matter of refolding and reorganizing fabric and things of that sort. But here is a picture of my room. I have no closets so I had to make wise decisions for storage. All in all I think I did pretty good and love love love my sewing room. I call it "My piece of heaven"
