I'm certain that quilting makes us smarter. We solve problems every day, foot pedals, too little fabric to complete a project, weird instructions written in a pattern. Hooray for you and your brain.

I did something similar with my Brother 1500s. I taped several pieces of cardboard under the pedal so it wouldn't depress all the way. Come to think of it, now that I'm getting a bit more proficient, maybe it's time to take out one piece so I can go a bit faster. We quilters really do rock when push comes to shove!
