Wink Getting Organized - Once Again

Keeping organized seems to be a never ending battle. I love the pictures I see where magazine boards are used to hold the fabric. I broke down this past week and ordered 200 boards. I am (almost) embarrassed to say I have gone thru 200 boards and ordered 300 more! The fabric I have on the boards looks so nice. My DH even said it looks like a "mini fabric store". In the process of straightening up my fabric, I have created another mess. Now my cutting table is piled high with fabric of 1/2 yard or less. My plan is to put 1/2 yard cuts on one shelf and cut anything smaller than that into tumbler blocks and 2 1/2 inch squares. I sure will have a lot when I am finished. I took before pictures and once I get finished I will take after pictures and share them.

Great job! I to have put my fabric on boards recently. Now I think I am also going to have to order moore boards.
I didn't need as many as you went thru 2 hundred and do not have more for fabric to come. LOL

I too am trying to re-do my sewing room..have been for seven days...I'm moving fabric to a large closet in sewing room, noticed some fading..what a chore. I refolded all fabric to fit shelves in closet...but, it shoud have been in closet in first place..just enjoy looking at the beautiful stuff..I tried the boards, thought they took up too much space on myshelfs.guess it is one of those individual things..good luck to anyone "re-doing"sewing room..lot of work, but very inspiring when finished.

LOL!!! In the middle of "organizing my sewing room". Husby is due home from an overseas trip at 3 pm today and the living room and dining room look like Hurricane Ike came through. My friend and I did put most of the fabric on comic book boards.
300 - comic book boards is what I started out with
500 - comic book boards I purchased the first day we started folding (Monday) which arrived on Wednesday
1000 - comic book boards I ordered overnight (Thursday) because I'm down to the last 50 from the second order
I wasn't going to buy that many more, but my friend asked if I was going to stop buying fabric! Haha! Thats' why I ordered the additional 1000.

Still have fat quarters to do. One book case (need additional shelves) is full. 2 shelves (6 ft) in the closet filled plus another bookshelf will be for fat quarters. Let's not even talk about the 8 tubs of fabric in our bedroom. That will be done later. She who dies with the most fabric wins! I'm still working on that! So please, please don't be embarrassed!

Must be something to do with spring. I have been shelving my ruler folded stash for two days now. Sophie, just like you, the fabric itself looks great but there is a lot left with no home to go to. I have two large book cases and a walk in closet lined with shelves that are all full. The sewing room and the extra bedroom both look like a fabric explosion took place. I'm afraid I am going to have to resort to boxes in a corner.

Give me courage! Inspiration! Keep posting your pictures QB members and telling us your stories. I should take everything out of my room, pull up carpet, put down a wood floor or vinyl and put it all back in. I just can't seem to face that right now. Maybe I will just keep the carpet and vacuum more frequently, but I still have to take everything out of the bookcases, move them to a different spot, fold fabric, and refill them. Where is that fairy godmother when you need her?

I understand for sure .. After the DGD's were here for a couple of weeks; my poor sewing room looked like someone just made a tornado and put it in that room only .. So I have to re-organize so I can get to working on quilts, outfits and some crafts. Get them done and over with for sure ..
(and I have beads all over the floor to pick up as well! UGH .. LOL ) At least the grands sewed, crafted and got an idea of what Gma does in her spare time AND they had a blast unorganizing Gma's room. LOL

When a local quilt shop went out of business last year I took a dozenor so (went back for more!LOL) of the carboard bolts they put out; cut them so it could fit 1/2 yard increment fabrics, just for the quilting area. Made that a lot nicer to see the fabrics (they are standing upright not laying down) on a shelf.

I ordered 200 and started folding fabric last night, went through the yellows. Now I realize that I will probably have to order about 1000 in all or more. I did figure out if there wasn't at least 1/2 yard, it goes into a pile to be cut up. I have fat quarters that will go into a special container. It will look fantastic when I am done. Keep at it.

My DH sees all my fabric and never says a word about how much I have - he even encourages me to get more! While I have been working on my reorganization, he has come in and tells me it looks like a mini quilt shop. I did order 300 more boards yesterday - should be here Wednesday. Last night I worked on the scraps and folded the 1/2 pieces. Figure I can use them to back wall hangings. When I get tired of looking at that pile I will cut them smaller. A lot of the smaller pieces I am putting thru my Accu cutter making tumbler blocks for a scrap quilt. Have just about enough to start that.
