I have used the long tubes that my rolls of bat come on--I've even stored quilts that are finished and ready to be quilted and are already pressed so I don't want to fold this way too.

tubes are rolley polley and hard to keep still..... I've used them, but I find them messy and uncontrollable. .....Maybe its just me.

I usually don't have anything over 5 yards, but what I have are usually stored over hangers in the closet. I have 2 sets of closets in my sewing room so I have plenty of room. There are a few fabrics, like flannel or interfacings that I roll on the cardboards from the store. They will usually give them to you, if you ask.

I store 4-5 yds and upward on bolts I get from my local fabric stores. Sadly my apparel fabrics need the longer bolts which the cotton bolts are not long enough. All other fabric lengths are folded onto comic book boards or ruler folded if I'm out of the comic book boards.
