My sewing room is also the dining room - well, you have to be VERY WORTHY for me to turn it back into a dining room even though the basics are still there. When my kids come we either go out to eat or squash around the kitchen table which seats 4. Anyway ....

My husband built me a quilt ladder - http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...y-t195661.html - which I put in the living room where a small book case had been. The items on that bookcase are now sitting in laundry baskets waiting for a place to live in the kids' old bedrooms.

The bookcase ended up in my sewing/dining room and THIS is how that came out! This cures one corner, but takes care of most of my yardage. The tubs still under the window contain backing - anything over 3 yds. Most of the fabric on the bookcase is 1 yard or a bit more. There are over 100 yards of fabric on this small bookcase. The tubs on the bookcase have fabric which is less than a yard - organized by color as well as I could manage it. The hutch which sets next to this window has bundles and kits - more on it later...

More corners will be on display as the story continues....

JanTX, I can definitely sympathize with you, as my sewing room is also the dining room. I am impressed at how organized your bookshelf is and how much it holds. Of course, I do not have nearly that much fabric, but I have 1 corner of my dining room. It has my sewing table, a desk, and another table that I use to cut and press, and then put my Viking on it when quilting. Under my desk is a bunch of storage bins with my fabrics and such. My desk shares my computer, my radio, and my embroidery machine. I think we just need to get rid of the actual dining room furniture (or let me use it for quilting storage lol).

I have my sewing machine on the dining table - since that's kind of tall I sit on a stool. The china has been moved to the top shelf of the hutch and I have kits and bundles on the bottom shelf. I'd love to sell the china, but ... haven't taken that step yet.

My dining room has also been my hobby room for 10-12 years. Dining room table (huge) shared with DH's leatherwork on occasion. I have gotten most of the fabric moved to my studio, but there's still all sorts of 'stuff' still in there...sewing patterns, lots of miscellaneous items like hot glue sticks, ribbon, you name it...
Sooner or later it will all get put where it belongs!

this just reminded me of my mom's home (the home I grew up in). It was an old colonial with a very large formal dining room. I'm thinking now that if I had kept that house after she passed, I could have had a major sewing space.

A suggestion: Put a sheet or something over those fabrics so they won't get faded by the light

It will spoil the nice look - but it will minimize possible damage -
