Anyone had a problem finding S hooks?

I bought two 4 x 4 peg boards for my sewing room. I didn't realize how hard it was to find the S hooks! Lowe's has one size: super large and super expensive. Walmart and Ace had super large or tiny. I did find some med size S hooks but they were $1 each. No Thanks. I need too many. I went back to Walmart. I kept getting sent to the hardware section when I asked about the S hooks. I kept searching on my own and I found a big box of 80 assorted S hooks for $8 95 in the tool section, not the hardware section. I now have all the S hooks, and assorted specialty hooks I need at a decent price. I haven't looked online but didn't want to pay shipping for metal items.

Odd, that they'd be hard to find! Sounds like you finally found a good bargain, though!

You can usually find them at Lowe's, Harbor Freight, Marvins, Home Depot and they even have them at our WalMart. Good luck in your search. Also, if you need a lot of them, some places offer free shipping.

I found some of mine at the garden center. I also was on the hunt for them. It was an odd item to find.

I got some at Harbor Freight right after Mother's Day. My DH surprised me with a peg board for my sewing room:)

I got my hardware at Lowes and Home Depot -- what one did not have the other did. I got shelf holders at Home Depot but Lowes had the shelving that fit. I put the shelves hight up and the hooks lower. Love my peg board -- I rearrange it every so often to make it work better for me -- very versitile.

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't have thought to look in the tool dept.

Thank you Bellaboo for bringing up the topic. I am about to put up pegboard in one of my sewing areas. Can't wait. First thing that will go up are all of my rulers... it will be so nice to have them hanging out of the way and not taking up table top space.

I find a I use my pegboard for a lot more than I thought I would. I know I put stuff on mine that doesn't "belong" I pretty much hang anything I can. I even put my gray bobbins on a peg for easy reaching.

I got some used ones from a store that was closing, but they were really only getting rid of the ones in bad shape. Hubby ended up straightening some and I cut some with bolt cutters b/c they were too long. (For safety I dipped the cut ends in hot glue to "soften" them.) I found a package of different sizes at Lowe's later but it took a couple of attempts.

My husband snagged me a whole box of actual pegboard hooks. They have a little angle part that goes into the peg board and a post that locks them in place. I had an assortment from 6 inch straight ones for hanging patterns, scissors, rotary cutter and a bunch of shorter ones. I am glad I don't have to hunt for them but I believe they had a big assortment at Home Depot. Here's a novel idea......why don't they have them in the same spot as the pegbard???

:D:D:D How silly... that would be toooooo easy! Or here's one: clothesline rope in the laundry section of Walmart! No, they put it over by tools or something. silly:D

The S hooks I found work great. It says S hook assortment but looks like peg board hooks to me. Lots of different ones in the box. I have everything hung on my peg board! I love it.

S-hooks did not give me any grief - it's when I went to Harbor Freight up in Vestal, NY (near Binghamton, NY) and asked for replacement blades for my rotary 45mm cutter. I have read here several of you find reasonable replacements there, but they had no idea what I was talking about!! I also had the same experience here on Long Island - Any ideas, ladies?

You can get them in bulk online. I order peg board hooks from www.storesupply.com I bought 4" hooks for my thread cones, much cheaper if you buy in bulk.

They are actually carpet cutter blades. Just ask them where the carpet installation supplies are.

Good luck!

I was just in IKEA last week and they have S hooks. They are in packages, not individual and they have them in two main kinds - metal and plastic. They were located ih the kitchen organizing area and althought I do not remember exact price, I think that they were relatively cheap.

They are called Carpet Cutter Replacement Blades. Here is the link on their website:

http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog...acement+blades I ordered them when they were on sale so even with the shipping costs, they were less. I ordered a dozen packages of 2 blades each.
