Come Tour My Sewing Room

I've recently re-arranged, took out a cabinet and replaced it with a table. I've sorted buttons, wrapped and bagged ribbons, laces and trims, pressed and wrapped fabric on comic boards, hung things, and now I'm pretty happy with it. Here's some pics...
From the doorway...

To the right, I have two big shelves. I hung "S" hooks to hang my cutting rulers on the side of one shelf

There are two small plastic topped folding tables and a chair for a guest in the corner. This sewing machine and cabinet is my absolute favorite. I learned to sew on a set up identical to this.
From the window, I can see my goats up on the hill, or walking back and forth to the water trough.

This table holds my embroidery machine, serger and Husquvarna/Viking Rose. I also use it for my laptop. I love all my threads above. I can hook my laptop up to the TV on the wall and use it either for a monitor, or to watch shows recorded or live through our wireless network. The stained glass clock I made years ago.

My china cabinet with a load of quilting and knit fabrics

This little wall holds my buttons. That was a chore sorting them. Lights, colors, darks, inbetweens, metal and metal look.

A couple of my fun little signs

This is it... My fun little room, packed, but still room for more.

mgmsrk 02-19-2013 01:22 PM

Beautiful, it is inspirational to see rooms like this. I have been sorting and organizing for weeks and it still looks like a bomb exploded.

Veronica 02-19-2013 01:38 PM

Very nice, now you need to come and organize my room. lol

thequilteddove 02-19-2013 01:57 PM

Lovely space! Once again I find myself suffering from window envy!

That looks like a terrific work space for you!

Born2Sew 02-19-2013 03:04 PM

Love it! Also very well organized too. I'm happy for all of you who have sewing rooms.

happyjunker 02-19-2013 03:26 PM

Thank you! All the floors in the house are laminate and vinyl. I would say easy to clean, but I hardly ever mop. This is a modular home, and we had it set on a full basement 1 1/2 years ago. I have 2 dogs and so much dirt gets tracked in. I knew there was no way I was going to have one inch of wall to wall carpeting.

I've got this fabric I just purchased to add a colorful valance to the room. It, jammie pants, slippers and the next mystery quilt hosted by "paintmejudy" are on the list of things that will help get it back to it normal messiness. I'm really happy with how it came out, and look forward to using it!

Hi, I see you have a Husqvarna Rose embroidery machine. How do you like it? I bought one and have bit been able to use it yet. I have been so busy with work.

Prim Quilts 02-19-2013 03:56 PM

You have a wonderful sewing room!

mighty 02-19-2013 04:13 PM

Beautiful sewing room!!!!

GARDNER0625 02-19-2013 04:50 PM

Looks wonderful!

Beuhla 02-19-2013 04:56 PM

I KNEW I should have kept my MIL's old china cabinet! Great idea and no dust on your fabric!

happyquiltmom 02-20-2013 04:03 AM

Fabulous room! I have a 401A, too. It was a graduation gift from my parents back in 1980. We have a cabinet just like yours at the LQS where I work, but it holds a Touch & Sew.
Love the little plaque about creative minds! Years ago, (he's been gone for 17 years now) my dad bought me a button that said, "I'm not messy, I'm creative". I wore it on my coat, but it must have fallen off somewhere. :(

I have wood laminate in my sewing room but put a braided rug down because I was told the rolling chairs would mark up the floor. Does anyone know if that's true. I guess I could go with stationary chairs with felt on the legs. I hate the rug. I love your room tho

psychonurse 02-20-2013 05:43 AM

It is beautiful. Love your organization. Hope i can incorporate some of your ideas , some day!

happyjunker 02-20-2013 06:00 AM

sept97, I don't know if the wheels are damaging the floor or not. They doesn't seem to be doing any damage, but who knows over time. I like to be able to roll from table to table, so it isn't a concern I have. The quality of the laminate may have something to do with how much rolling it will take.

amyjo, I haven't used my Rose for embroidery since I got my Brother PE-780D last year. I bought the Rose new, years ago, and it was pricey back then. I only have a small hoop for it, and honestly it was a lot harder for me to figure out than the Brother, which was under $900. With the Rose, I had to use a dongle to put patterns on, and could only do 3X3's. My Brother does 5X7's and it is so much easier to use. I can download designs to my computer and transfer them over to a stick memory that plugs right into the machine.

I do like the Rose for sewing though, and I have such an investment in it that I will not recover if I try to sell her, so here she stays. Technology has come a long way in a short period of time. It is a good machine, and has a blanket stitch on it which my 401A does not have.

Wow, so much space & so nicely arranged & decorated. Great job !!

janiesews 02-20-2013 06:57 AM

Very nice room. It looks very inviting. Enjoy and let your creativeness flow.

Pieces2 02-20-2013 06:57 AM

Great sewing room. Organization is a must in a sewing room. A great place to make some quilts. :)

quilter68 02-20-2013 07:18 AM

Nice work and a great sewing room!

paulswalia 02-20-2013 07:50 AM

I have those same shelving units and NEVER thought to use "S" hooks for my rulers!!!! Brilliant! Thanks for the tip!

mjhaess 02-20-2013 08:15 AM

WOW...What a great space...Thanks for sharing...

damaquilts 02-20-2013 10:15 AM

Great room . Very organized.

After I move I am going to be coming here for some organizing ideas for sure. I am going from a 15x13 quilting only room, to a 10x12 room with 2 twin beds in it. that needs to be able to be cleaned up for guests. Oh my! Arent we suppose to get bigger play spaces as we get older. LOL

Chasing Hawk 02-20-2013 10:15 AM

A very cool looking room. I just love the hardwood floor.

Caswews 02-20-2013 10:24 AM

Love your space .. LOVE your floors; now Missy; why is this room so clean and nice looking ? Why isn't it messed up like the rest of our sewing rooms/spaces?LOL

JanieH 02-20-2013 10:38 AM

Love your sewing space. I cleaned mine just before I went into the hospital for surgery. Now the challenge is to keep it "sort of" that way. Love your sign!

gramquilter2 02-20-2013 11:29 AM

You have a fantastic, well organized space.

appliquequiltdesigns 02-20-2013 12:14 PM

I was wondering about the small table you have your cutting mat on. Do you use that table only for cutting or do you also use it to baste your quilt? If yes, how do you attach the backing & batting down?

kathyd 02-20-2013 12:15 PM

I like your room, looks well organized. At least for now, till the creativity starts flowing ;) I also like the idea of "S" hooks on your metal racks. I hadn't thought of that. Now to go raid DH workshop for some hooks.
Enjoy your room when the weather turns crazy tomorrow! I'm hoping for a snowday from school so I won't have to cook lunch for the kids and can sew for me instead. :)

How neat and tidy. Great to have your sewing machine stationed so that you are able to see outside. Very nice.

giquilt 02-20-2013 01:55 PM

This looks great. Love the china cabinet for fabric/books. I also can look out my window at goats/sheep/cows, but they are on the neighboring farm, so no work. Love your room!

Grandma Peg 02-20-2013 02:07 PM
