Craft/Sewing Room Update #5: Drywall

The cabinets are going on the wall to the right. See the duct work sticking out on the upper right? The plan was to have the upper cabinets butt up against the closet wall. He was going to cut the side of the cabinet so that it could accomodate the duct work. The problem is that there is enough room in the cabinet to accomodate the far duct, but not the closest one as it is more than 12" from the cabinet wall. So he is going to build a bulk head for the ducts and put shelves on the wall in the place of one of the cabinets. [ATTACH=CONFIG]304274[/ATTACH] Above: wall between new room and existing family room. You can see where the planned cut-out will be. He is waiting until the last possible moment before cutting this out to keep the drywall dust down in the rest of the house. The controls for the humidifier are back there, as is the on/off tap for the backyard hose. He's going to put a 24" bi-fold door in this spot. It will be hidden behind the family room door most of the time. |
It's really starting to take shape now! I bet you're so excited you could just about burst!! A room of one's own is sheer heaven.

Lucky you to have a husband who can do this for you. My son and husband just put a 12 X 24 foot addition on the house and it will be a place for our grandchildren to play and for us to sit and enjoy our farm. I have two sewing rooms and love them. They are upstairs so no one else can bother me or I have to worry about someone coming in while I am "creating."

WooHoo!! It's looking good. I've been following your updates. I'm getting my own space too but it will be half of the new garage. Will be lined and air-conditioned with a couple of sky -domes, as well as plenty of lighting. Slab goes down next weekend. You must be beside yourself with excitement.

What a dream place! ! ! Shelves are a great place to put a small collection of sewing related items. I am collecting the small combo pincushion/tape measure items from days gone by. Don't have a lot and have a couple small shelves that hold them near the sewing machine. Gives the MIL something to get me for the holidays.
Suggestions (or did you think about) 1.Insulating the walls better by the furnace with sound proofing? 2. Will the bifold door be covered with cork so you could make a dream board to pin things on? 3. Sliding doors for your closet that could pull out from the place you are putting shelves which could be your layout wall....they slide away to the right so you can see the fabulous fabric stored in the closet. Your guy is doing a tremendous job. I'm sure the wait is going to be worth it. I have tradesman in the family (carpenter, plumber, electrician) and grew up learning about what it takes to do a good job the right way. |

high up shelves that have framed glass/plexiglass doors keep cute things visable without gathering bits and pieces of batting, dust, etc. just an idea..........this is a truly great project, really enjoying, in my mind i see a plate of snacks on the pass thru that you and your family are sharing !
