fabric shelves before and after

I finally got enough foam boards from Dollar General to finish winding the majority of the fabrics in this bookcase. There's one small stack left and part of what's in the stack is kits.

Before,

I actually took out a shelf and still have it all back on the shelf. The two full size bolts are a fusible interfacing so it's going to stay on the full size bolts.

RUSewing 07-06-2012 12:22 PM

GRrrrrrreat! Would love to 'play' in your stash, but won't make a mess - promise.

nannyrick 07-06-2012 12:53 PM

WOW!!!
Great job. Looks like a fabric store.

kathdavis 07-06-2012 12:54 PM

Awesome! I have about 1/2 of mine on comic book boards. I hope to finish before I have to return back to school. I love the way it looks and how easy it is to see what you have. You inspired me to continue.

Tartan 07-06-2012 01:17 PM

Doesn't that look pretty! You will be able to find your fabric so much better now.

It took over 10 years to get that much fabric. A lot of them are only 2 yard cuts.

quiltjoey 07-06-2012 05:36 PM

Oh, you are so organized! I get half way there and then I have chaos again!!! Congrats!

JenDale 07-06-2012 07:17 PM

ok 'serious drooling' going on here...admire your stash and just love the finished look...

Halfsquare 07-06-2012 09:16 PM

Oh man - and I thought I had a lot of fabric!

meanmom 07-07-2012 05:15 AM

JEALOUS!!! Can I come and play at your house.

Difergie 07-07-2012 05:55 AM

You are inspiring me!

Lyncat 07-07-2012 06:17 AM

That looks so nice and organized. By the way, your "before" picture looks better than my space. Sigh...you have inspired me.

How would you like to take a road trip to the eastern part of the state and do mine? Looks great.

Sure! One of the biggest reasons I did this is so I can pull the fabrics out and play with them. When they're in stacks you end up having to fight with the stack and end up with a mess when you're done. This way I can pull out what I want and put it back with no mess!

I will not however post a pic of my desk!

Hmmmm, you've got some great quilt stores on that side of the state. I might have to consider it!

mighty 07-07-2012 06:59 AM

Looks really great, beautiul fabrics!!!!

Latrinka 07-07-2012 07:14 AM

So nice and neat, looks like a fabric store! I'd love to come shopping there! LOL!

Wine Woman 07-07-2012 07:20 AM

It's beautiful! Isn't it nice to have your fabrics right at your finger tips instead of digging through bins?! Your own little fabric store. I really enjoy looking at my collection of fabrics!

Pieces2 07-07-2012 07:22 AM

A great collection of fabrics, organization makes it easier to pull fabrics for a quilt, as well as saves you time.

karenpatrick 07-07-2012 07:25 AM

What are the fabric boards called that you got at Dollar General? I've never seen anything like that here locally.

They're just foam core boards. If they have them they'll be with the poster boards. I checked at our other DG and they don't have any at all. My Dollar Tree doesn't have them either but some people have said they can get them at DT.

rosiewell 07-07-2012 08:03 AM

wow it looks like a quilt shop! great work, would you like to come to my house and do the same?

bearisgray 07-07-2012 08:10 AM

Your 'before' looked decent, too.

I fold the bottom corner up and secure the top with a jumbo vinyl coated paper clip.

chips88 07-07-2012 10:02 AM

Sure thing!

Fold the bottom corner up.

Finish winding it up and put a jumbo paper clip at the top to hold it.

coopah 07-08-2012 04:40 AM

Huh! Even the before picture looks good to me. You rock!

KathyE 07-08-2012 06:22 AM

WOW, that looks wonderful. I wish my stash looked as good as your "before" picture. I need to find these boards and do my fabric that way. I have mine in piles and it makes a mess every time I pull something out because what I need is always on the bottom!!

chips88 07-08-2012 07:33 AM

back to the drawing board . thank you for the pics. i see now how to make them look neat and tidy.

chips88 07-08-2012 08:23 AM

lisalovesquilting 07-08-2012 08:50 AM

Your "before" looks a lot better than mine!

MimiBug123 07-08-2012 09:27 AM

Oh my. I'm so jealous. I have got most of my fabric ruler folded and on shelves and was proud of myself for that!
