I went on vacation...

I went on vacation and never left my sewing room. I have been working like crazy on my room. Bookcases were put together and the table top was put on. I decided to sort and fold fabric to at least get some of the masses of fabric put away, not their final spots, but to help organize.
Well as I was folding I was thinking about where certain fabrics came from. We go racing all over the country during the summer and I do get to shop occasionally. So cool to remember nice stores I visited, cute little out if the way shops and sometimes big box stores just to see if they carry something different than my local store has. It is amazing how much I acquired in the last few years.
i took a few of the most memorable ones (ones that have funny or unusual stories of how they were acquired) and put them together....this will be my travel memory quilt. I actually have a piece of fabric a friend gave me that has maps, motor homes, and places of interest on it. Not sure how or when it will get started, but that will be part of the memories too!
i hope to get the room done in the next few weeks so I can share pictures (once I find out how to post them!)

What a fun idea, I can't wait to see the pictures of the room (and the quilt).

Don't you love vacations like that!! My husband went on a motorcycle trip for 4 days, I took off work and spent the whole time organizing my sewing room. I had such fun!

wow do you come to michigan for the nascar races? I have a camp ground for those weekends on turn 3-4 and usually sit outside in the garage and sew all weekend.

we are drag racers, so I get to sew between rounds and when we get the occasional rain days. Have not been to Michigan NASCAR, only Daytona. We have tickets to the Bristol race, but our motor home is still in storage and we cannot get it out until a week AFTER the race. Oh darn! I enjoy both typs of racing, I am closer to drag racing since I do tires, parachute, and starting line for 2 cars and will stand in for other cars if a crew member is not there or the driver needs help.
Last year I only pieced 4 lap quilts, 2 baby quilts. In past years I almost doubled that. Last year was tough, we were defending champion and had to work extra to keep that standing...we ended the year in secon place. Not bad, we are happy for the new champ...the bullseye is on his back this year!
I think I will have more time to sew at the track this year.

See you in Bristol in August if you can't make it in March.

Last night I found a small bag with fabric from grandma. She passed in 1966! It is so dear to me to find this and why did I not remember I had it? I also have 12 quilt squares she made...paper pieced, with the paper still attached. The dates are from the early 60's. I also found an original fiesta ware teapot, bright green. The lid is cracked, but it looks very pretty. I am going to put it in my sewing room. I remember her making tea and taking it to the porch while she hand pieced her blocks. Maybe she will look over me while I sew.

Bneighbor this brings up such good memories for me. We also drag raced for years, traveling lots of miles. Loved every minute of it. I'll bet your memory quilt will be outstanding.

Sounds like you had a bunch of fun, and have some ideas for some neat projects! :)
