Imagine my surprise!

After reading about everyone's plans for organization and reading all the posts, I've decided that I need to get myself together. A couple of days ago I started the ruler folding of my fabrics. I've completed the blues and started in on the purples. Well, imagine my surprise when I discovered that I don't have very much purple! Is it because I love it and use it a lot? Is it because I haven't found too many purples that I just HAD to have? Are most of my purples in UFO bags that need to be done? No matter what the reason may be, now I feel the need to go out and buy purple!! (I'll try to control myself, though). I hope to be able to post before and after pictures once I figure out the attaching picture thing. I followed the instructions but it keeps telling me it failed. Technology is not my friend...

I found I had a lot of blue and green in my stash. I do like those colours so I must pick those up most often. I hope to see your pictures once you get them loaded. I can only post pics I have taken with my Ipad.

I have pink and blue in quite an abundance in my stash. I like making blue/white quilts in general, and pink baby ones in particular. Please post pics! I love before and afters of fabric folded!

I bounce from one color to another and from brights to civil war, batiks to 30's. I think I need a room for each!

This is my second post. I got that bug of wanting my fabric to be nice and neat. I started folding on boards. Then I cleaned out some filing cabnets, It looks so nice. Then I open another tote. Now I need another cabinet. I found out that I like pinks and blues with soft flowers. I have been reading this broad since July and have loved looking at everyones work. It is nice to see everyone taking care of others needs. I really enjoy how you joke with each other, just like a family. Thank you for the entertainment and great works of art.

A follow-up to my original post. Almost no purple, but TONs of red. That makes sense, it's my favorite color, but why is it I can never find a red I like when I'm looking for one? I'm hoping to get my oranges and yellows organized today - who knows WHAT I'll find when I do that!

While folding I discovered have darks and med but very few lights. Such a delima..shop now or later or both.

Wow.. we are experiencing the same problem. I was working on a baby quilt using up scraps and had incorporated, peach, blue, pink green and yellow. It needed a light purple to ginish up the needed blocks. None in the scrap box, none in the yardage...finally found a FQ that I almost missed. I need more purple. I find I gravitate to the dark colors and need to buy some more pastels in general

Bought a house last April and am still going thru boxes. It is like Christmas ! Open and there is MORE fabric.

Michelle, technology is not my friend either. That's why I still have my halloween picture as my avatar from 2011'. I have no clue how to change it. If you'd like, we can be non-tech savy friends together!

Just browsing my stash, I don't have much purple either. The color I have the most of is light blue. Good luck with organizing your fabrics and sewing studio!

Annaquilts 02-19-2013 07:20 AM

I have the same. There are a lot of blues and greens and very little ornage and purple. I think it is because it is hard to find good shades of those colors and once I have some I tend to use it.

Ahhh .. technology ! supposed to help us all- a paperless world I was told years ago in High School when learning about computers !! lol Still not paperless, and still not having fun with technology !LOL

I have been organizing and re-organizing my sewing area for about a month. I think I like it one way and endd up with it another way !LOL .. sigh .. Maybe I will get some quilting done (I have blocks cut out !LOL that is a good thing!LOL)

I love hearing what everyone else has in their stash. I started organizing green yesterday. I know I read someone else's post about greens. Every shade imaginable. I have some UGLY greens in there (would I have actually bought them? Do they reproduce at night from other colors to morph into these ugly colors? Who knows...)

orangeroom - yes! let's be non-tech savvy friends. That's so funny about your avatar! All my family does is laugh at me and my troubles...

All I have is scraps left from a asked for quilt of purples-I have lots of different teals -greens and blues from Batiks to plain and everything in between. Pinks and purples are colors I don't buy unless I have a request from some one special

I find it is always a good thing to go through my fabric occasionally - it is surprising what I forget I have!

We never seem to have enough of certain colors or lines of fabric, and that is what keeps me shopping. I collect civil war, and try to have a good selection of various colors of small cuts for scrappy piecing, which I love to do. Nice to know what to look for, when shopping for therapy, or our stash could get way out of control.

I have a significant stash and I love it. A whole book case of green, it's nature's neutral. It's very hard for me to call a quilt finished without green. As for purple, my second favorite and I always look for purples while shopping. I'd like more purple, but can't justify it. I have way too many blue. What to do?

When shopping at a fabric store, I go around the store 3x. The first is pure pleasure, whatever I like is pulled out. The second trip I search for really lights and really darks. The third pass is to find what I came in for. When all is collected I start narrowing it down to what I'm willing to spend. Oh, I forgot the books, notions, sale tables, samples..........and on and on.

I seem to have a well balanced stash, whch to me means I need to continue feeding it on a regular basis to keep it healthy and balanced. Another excuse to buy fabric, YES!!

michelleoc 02-21-2013 07:47 AM

Petthestash - you really DO have a lot of greens. That's great. All your fabric is so nicely organized. I imagine that by staying organized it's easier to find specifically what you are looking for.
