It is an addicting place. Glad the ironing board and Quilting board both worked out for you!

I've been drooling over a large piece of plywood in my DH's shop. I made an ironing board out of a piece of plywood
18" X 48". I could have made it longer and wished I had. Found out really quickly that I didn't really have any room to set the iron down and still be able to smooth out a length of fabric 45" wide. This new piece of plywood is about 24" X 53". That would be a really nice size. I set my board on a table which is 24" X 48" and I raised it up with PVC pipe over the legs. |
I'll have to ck this out. thanks for sharing!
|
I'll Check it out, thanks!!!

Great ideas for an ironing board center!

Ironing board
Is it rectangular shaped or shaped like a regular ironing board, but wider?
|
Kathy it is 18 x 48, just like reg ironing board but wider...I got one several months ago and love, love, love it. I did go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and got a thick ironing board cover - just put it on over the one that came with it, used one of my 20% off coupons. The board is nice and heavy too...You can't go wrong for the price.

I looked online at Walmart after I saw this thread and did not see a wider ironing board. :(

Good Morning crzy4qults, and Everyone,
Just went to Walmart site and bought this ironing board and a few other items. I didn't know they had an on-line site. WOW! I am not in trouble but prices are great. Now I have all my everyday shirts for the summer. Thanks for posting about this board, Quilter68 (who is now 70) |

I asked my son to check his nearby Costco to see of they had the ironing board and if it wasn't too costly or heavy, I would go get it (50 miles away). He emailed me the next day and said I got it and will bring it to you as a gift!

Costco has them.

I have had one for a few months now and love it!! I, too, got the shelf underneath but I already had one of the smaller cutting boards that rotates so I just plop it on top if I don't need my big one! :-)

I purchased a large board at my local WalMart Supercenter that may be the board you are talking about. It is 18 in wide and 49 in long for the Ironing Surface and then there is a iron stand on th end of that it has a hanger rack that raises up for the freshing ironed shirts, pants, etc. There is also a metal rack or shelf about 1/2 down underneath, mine came with a fabric basket attached to it with velcro. I know I have had this one about 5 years and it is very sturdy. My DH plans to take some plywood and make me a big board 24 inches wide and the full length of this board for ironing large yardage and quilts..
Take a tape measure with you and measure the boards at your local WM. They may have it in stock and you don't realize it. |
Hi, I have one of those ironing boards too and love it. I didn't get the smaller one, but I have a small one next to my Sewing Machine, but like the big one for big projects....
|
I've had my big ironing board for a few years and love it. Oh by the way crzyqults I'm also from Rhode Island and belong to IRQG in Pawtucket.
|
I'm in such a small apartment but I'd love to have a wide board, planning on moving as soon as I can, then I plan on my own sewing room! That would be a treat all it's own!! :o
|
Once you use the big board you wonder how you ever managed with the standard one.

I found this one online:

This is the least inexpensive board they make for home use. Reliable brand is the leader in professional dry cleaning and ironing products. Their line of home products are the best on the market. That ironing board is made to last for generations. The long board is removeable. I saw all their home boards at a booth at a wedding show and I never thought an ironing board could be improved as much as thesse were. One had heat and vacuum control built right in the board. |

My poor ironing board will soon be 46 years old. It measures 57'' long and 17'' at the back and 15'' at the front. I use it backwards since it's a little wider. I can't find covers for it but do the best I can. Just can't find anything else I'd be happy with.

I didn't find one on the Walmart web site-
