My little bit of Heaven

Ok maybe I am exaggerating a little bit but I think this set up works for me for now. I am in a little nook where the breakfast area would go. So my sewing machine is facing the family room and I can watch the TV. ( I watch way too much ) then on the other side of the 1/2 wall is where I have a 6ft table that I cut on, and when I don't have the ironing board up where it is now I can also iron on a corner of the table. My very little stash is on shelves in my laundry room. Out of the way.

Great use of space! Looks well thought out!

sewgray 01-24-2012 06:44 AM

Looks like a nice place to sew and your thimble collection is impressive.

Podunk Princess 01-24-2012 07:05 AM

Looks like a perfect spot to sew. You've really used the available space well.

quiltingfan 01-24-2012 07:55 AM

I started my thimble collection when I was a teen. I use to take sewing classes where we made our own patterns. Of course 30 years later have totally forgotten how to do that. Now I pick them up when we travel. Some have broken along the way but will just have to go back and buy more. LOL

JeannieT 01-24-2012 09:53 AM

looks like a great space to me too! Enjoy!

I love your thimble display.

I like the way you have everything set-up within reach.... I also like the block that you are working on, that is sitting on top of your ironing board. Thank you for sharing :-)

Country1 01-24-2012 01:45 PM

Love your thimble collection!

That is a wall hanging kit that my husband bought me last summer to work on while we were living in our 5th wheel. Never got around to it. I have not been able to buy any new fabric for other project I wanted to do so I decided to get that out and work on it. Thanks for looking. Beth

Where did you get your table for your machine? What brand/style? I have a serger I would love to get a table for.

SandScraps 01-25-2012 04:02 AM

I love the way you set up a workspace and that it is so close to the living area where you can still be part of the house happenings. The lampshade is wow and the thimble collection wonderful touch. Wish you very many, very happy hours of sewing and creating master pieces.

labtechkty 01-25-2012 04:18 AM

looks great...love your displays...

quiltingfan 01-25-2012 05:11 AM

The machine is a Janome 6500 that my dh bought me for my b day a couple of years ago. We bought the floor model and the table came with it. You can buy the table separatly, but that is what it is. I absolutly love it, the only problem is that i seem to have to clean the bobbin area constantly or the threads get all tangled up. Thanks for looking. I am glad I was able to share my space with all you guys. Beth

Oh, I wish my sewing space looked as good as yours. Mine is everywhere it seems. I have a cousin in Alaska that collects thimbles so always look for new ones for her. Have a great week.

we who sew make our space where ever there is an opening, when we travel in the RV I have to be very space wise. have a fold up table and chair, all fabric in plastic see through boxes , bbut that machine goes with me everywhere. ther are dead times that I just can't sit doing nothing so out comes either the cutting board or the sewing machine. TV is just a noise maker that I could do with out, but hubby likes it running full time.. enjoy your space. My at home work space is OK have to share the room with DH computer work space..((:))

I too like the iron board block, great colors. I would never get any sewing done, too busy watching tv. Little piece of heaven is right.

BarbaraSue 01-25-2012 02:51 PM

You have quite the place for sewing/quilting. Small apaces don't have to be cramped. Good for you.

kiffie2413 01-25-2012 02:55 PM

What a fun cozy looking sewing area. You have made a great space for your quilt making. Everyone needs their own corner of the world, and you have certainly achieved it here. Great job.

Very creative and I love seeing the thimble collection, as well....I collect them too.

I like the little stand with the baskets that sits by the dog's water bowl, but something occurred to me...you have a really good little space to work with there. If you were inclined, you could scoot the dog's water elsewhere, move the basket table and go to Wallyworld and get two rolling plastic carts with wheels. Then to Lowes in the storage section and look for the widest white board they sell for homemade shelves and have it cut to where it will go all the way into the corner and as far towards the back door as you want..not too close to the door or you'll whack yourself every time you go out.
Use the board as a table top for the rolling carts and you'll have TONS of storage and a handy place to put stuff while you're working. I don't know about you, but stuff just generates around me when I sew and I always need more room to spread out.
Looks like a happy space.

sewbeadit 01-29-2012 02:26 AM

Looks very nice. I used to sew in my dining room as well, then the living room and a bedroom.

shirleysonshine 01-29-2012 01:10 PM
