My machine is actually a little tall for me. I'm vertically challenged and I can't see a way to lower mine at all. My friend who I let use it is really tall and would like it higher...told her she would have to quilt on her knees! lol In fact with the ProStitcher, the small HQ screen on the front is so high that when I need to change settings, I have to get a step stool! lol
I am sure I will be rearranging the room many times as I find the flow that I like best!

"I thought I would have tons of room....that is until I brought Lucy (my long arm) home."

I'm finding out the same thing. I had my LongArm delivered about three weeks ago, thinking I'd have enough room in the bonus room that serves as a bedroom/pool table room/keyboard room. Ha! The pool table is now a huge sewing/cutting table; the keyboard is finding a new home; one child is sleeping in the "master" bedroom; and the one child who still has her bed in there is organizing it for me, now. I can't wait to see what she comes up with!

Why not keep the 'old sewing room' as your sewing room and make the new room your 'new quilting room'. I don't know about you but when I'm "quilting" - I'm not "sewing" or "cutting fabrics".

Keep only the supplies you need for the longarm in the "quilting room" - buy duplicates if you need to...they're less than fabric per yard.

How about having someone make you a platform box the length of your longarm so you can stand on it. Say 36" deep by the length of your table.

Your friend can try a stool to sit on while longarming.

I have a couple of small dressers under my frame. Bought them used, of course, an they hold a lot of stuff. I even have a tool drawer. There is still room on either side for large storage containers. Measure the amount of room you have and go shopping at some of the thrift stores. Here is a picture of the dressers under the frame:
