MY new room

9 Attachment(s)
When we first looked at our home our realtor described this little room as the baby room. Well, I knew that wasn't happening so the room became the catch-all space. Items for Goodwill was stashed in it till pick-up day, or Christmas or birthday presents were hidden in the space. In my mind it was too small of a room to do anything with. I sewed at the kitchen table and life went along just fine, year after year.

Then one day it hit me. I should have my own space, my own room for sewing, and I thought of this little room. I cleaned everything out, moved a table into it and life went on just fine. Then last spring I asked DH to build a sewing table, with drawers and a sewing machine lift. Love it! He built the peg board for my supplies and hung the design wall. We hung baby photos of our boys. He surprised me when he installed not only a TV for a little entertainment but also a blue-ray player. This Christmas he gave me ceiling lights and a few Ott Lights to brighten the space.

I love my little sewing space!

Thank you all. I read many of the replies to DH and he got a big smile on his face. He is a keeper and as of this Saturday night we will have known each other for 30 years. Next year (2013) we'll celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary so, yep, I'll be keeping him.

BuzzinBumble 12-29-2011 02:07 PM

For a little room, it sure packs a BIG punch! Congrats to you and your sweet DH for creating such a wonderful space!

Whigrose 12-29-2011 02:25 PM

Great room! It's wonderful to have a place to call 'your own', isn't it. Best thing is, there's a door when you need to walk away and leave it.

mnadz 12-29-2011 04:01 PM

Awesome!! It's great to have your own space :)

AUQuilter 12-29-2011 04:28 PM

What a terrific room you have. And your sewing table is wonderful.

Tsgthelen 12-29-2011 05:45 PM

Very nice. I am trying to design my room now. I used to sew years ago, wedding dresses for full figured women was my specialty. I also do the memory quilts. Now with all the new fabrics and styles I feel as if I need to take a sewing class.

ging10ging 12-29-2011 06:33 PM

That's funny about the fabric cause my first thought was "where's the fabric?" Glad to hear that you have a stash somewhere. Nice room though.

damaquilts 12-30-2011 06:17 AM

What an absolutely wonderful space ! Your sewing table is exactly what I would love to have. It is gorgeous. I don't even need the lift. LOL

gypsylady5 12-30-2011 06:23 AM

What a wonderful room. Your DH is a real keeper. Wish he were closer to me in FL. I'd sure put him to work on my sewing space.

I tried having the stash in the room but it really made it feel crowded and messy. I don't work well in a messy area. We have a guest bedroom which now has a dresser full of stash and a 5 shelf storage rack filled with fabric. The light is nice in the room so when I want to plan a project I head in there and look through my stash.

Oh, and when I have lots of cutting to do I head to the kitchen and use the island for cutting on. I only use the cutting board in my sewing room when I have a couple pieces to do or a little trimming.
