I would take photos from all angles of both rooms and print them out. Measure the space, (floor and wall). Then go to the mission organization and see what works best for you. You can use pencil to plan it. I would make that 8' table work. Just clean it up or paint. I have an 8' work bench to lay patterns out on. It's 8'x26" and has two small cabinets and small drawers (formerly kitchen cabinets found at garage sale). Take your photos and kind of lay it out like your kitchen. everything you know you're going to need on a frequent basis keep nearby. Imagine your machine - your stove/cooktop. Ironing/pressing station- kitchen sink. Dining area-cutting and design area. One extra full blank wall space for your design wall. The rest of the space above and around can be visible storage for material. The Mission Organization link has all kinds of ideas. I definitely would use clear storage containers. I have a couple file storage boxes that I have marked denim. I also have a box that only has my DH scraps from his clothes marked. Everything else is in clear storage or comic book boards. I got more than 100 for 9.95 at the local comic book store. Sturdy cardboard works well to wrap material around. I also pick up the material boards from the fabric centers at the different stores. I ask first. What ever works for you.

A while back I posted some before and after pics. My little room was a mess. But I finally got it emptied out and rearranged and am quite happy with it now. My only regret is I do not have a design wall - if I ever get my computer desk moved I will have the wall. The best investment that I have is my cutting table. It is on wheels-the two sides are on hinges and can drop down and I have drawer and door storage on both sides. As long as you have what you need and don't want to spend additional money you will figure it out - you may have to rearrange a few times. As far as my fabric goes I have 4 tall bookshelves. I invested in some comicbook boards and wrapped all of my fabric on them. Some of them are standing up and others lay flat. It will be your little piece of heaven. Good luck and post before and after pics. Good luck to you.

Looks like you've gotten lots of advise/suggestions. Here's my 2 cents worth. I'd make 1 room the storage room. Line the walls with shelves. Put a 6' cutting table in the center. You can lay a big board ironing board on op of the cutting table for large ironing projects. Put UV block on the window, comes in a sheet.

The other room use for the act of quilting. Make it attractive, whatever that is to you, with plenty of ambiant light. Have plenty of task lights. Put UV block on the window. Put a small iron/cutting station next to you sewing center. Have plenty of design wall space. And drawers for your sewing tools, thread, notions. Ventilation: fan. Comfortable chair: an office chair that adjusts for height, tilt etc. If space a chair for company. I may think of more.

for rugs on wood floor I'm using large puzzle pieces, rubberized. soft cushioning on bare feet, easy to see pins and wipes up if spilled on, look in kids departments. each piece about one foot.

Looks great! As far as window treatments, I'm a real fan of super sheer chiffon kind of fabrics in a commentary color. I was thinking a super light sunshine-yellow. I love your 2nd hand finds! They're great!

Big sewing table is a must and I put mine against the wall so when I quilt it doesn't go over the edge and pull. Also have my ironing board next to machine so I can iron pcs as I go. Don't know if it will work but I posted a picture of my room if you can find back posts on my home page. I love having a room all too myself!
