from old desk to sewing desk

I found this old desk on craigslist for $15 bucks. I had my son remodel it just a bit so the machine sets down in it. The knee hole drawer and the top right drawer aren't use able as drawers any more but I still have 5 nice drawers. The knee hole drawer has a stack of wood just the right height to support one end of the shelf for the machine. The other end has a support attached to the inside end of the desk.

I like your new sewing desk!

You may want to check out the hardware store. You can get the hardware to take off the knee hole drawer front and turn it into one of those tilt-out drawers on some old treadle machines. I use the one on my treadle for the small things like extra feet, bobbins, screwdrivers, etc.

Just a thought.

Beautiful, by the way. Love the old waterfall furniture.

Love it! The law office next door to ours is remodeling and this morning there was a desk sitting out back by the dumpster. I ask the guy who was remodeling what was going to happen to the desk and he said it was going to the dump. So... he helped me load it in my truck and it is going home with me tonight!

Thank you for explaining the support created to hold your machine at the right height to be flush with the top of the desk. I have wondered and wondered when I have seen desks and tables used for this purpose.

Your desk is wonderful! I bet it is really sturdy to sew on. Your son did a great job and you had a creative idea to do it in the first place! Next desk I see at the junk store, I will think of yours.....
