Organizing in Glass Jars
3 Attachment(s)
I developed a fascination for glass jars and a found a link thru this forum that featured ribbons in glass jars. I have a beautiful 6ft window with a very deep shelf in my sewing room. Dh brought home paintsticks from work and cut them to fit the large jar for my lace collection. I bought fancy glass jars to store buttons in multiple size jars. I also knit and crochet and storing the needles upright makes them easier to find. I have 3-4 sets of sizes as I work on multiple projects at once. Somewhat like our sewing projects, too many. The window faces west and the morning sun is overwhelming. I found the vintage sewing machine fabric at my local fabric shop and whipped up these curtains that are SEW appropriate for my sewing room. Just picked up an armoire at a garage sale that I started organizing my stash with the comic book board method. I'm a visual person and I like to see everything to develop inspiration. Now I just have to figure out how to organize the rest of the room. More jars to fill. Good thing the camera doesn't feature a rear view, what a mess.

Just lovely. Looks like you are a painter, too? (Flowerpot, shoe pincushion?)

Oh yes, forgot to mention I also paint. Another fetish of mine is pin cushions. The blue one next to the dress form is Needle Nana. A friend of mine made her 30 yrs ago. She is my favorite. I bought the shoe and turned it into a pin cushion. Some of the knitting needles are my Mom's that must be at least 60 yrs old. We lost all her vintage pattern books in a flood. My new fetish is vintage sewing machines. Still trying to figure out how to display them. I picked up 2 this year and added to my newer machines, that makes 8. We converted my living room to a sewing room as it's just dh and I in this big house now. But it is chock full of stuff. Must figure out how to organize it all some day. I lost my job this summer and at least I have an outlet to escape to and try to forget. I have enough stash to get me through it all.

Very good idea, I also love your curtains.

You've done a great job of organizing to fit your style. I love pincushions, also. Would like to see how you decide to display your machines, as I'm in the same dilemma.

Love this! and you bet I am going to borrow your ideas!

What a clever idea. Your curtains are great.
I wish I could store my knitting needles and crochet hooks like that but the cats would have them all over everywhere if I left them out. I have to put all the cat play toys in drawers and sometimes that doesn't keep them out. |
Very good.
|
Yep, love this! So neat. Makes me rethink my storage possibilities. Oh how fun.
|
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I love those curtains!!

Another use of half pint jars after candles have melted is for buttons -- looks great having multiple same size jars sorted by button colors.
|
Love the jars! The lace on the paint sticks is my personal favorite!!
|
I love the lace in the jar and the curtain fabric couldn't be more perfect looks like you have a very enjoyable space to work in.
|
VERY pretty! Love the curtains and well, I love it all. I have ribbon pcs in a jar, bit never thought about the stick idea. You've done a great job! Thanks for sharing!...

Great storage idea. I would never have thought of using paint stirrers to store lace.

I love this idea! WalMart has some great glass jars with lids that would work perfectly for these awesome storage ideas. I bought them in assorted sizes to use as canisters in my kitchen. Love being able to see the flour and sugar to know when I need to buy more. I was afraid they wouldn't keep bugs out, but no bugs!!!

Love your jars!!! I have the same fabric for covers for machines!!!!

looks very organized. Nice glass jars.

I can't believe your shoe pin cushion. I made one from the same kind of plaster shoe many years ago for a dear friend. Love your jar organization, I love glass containers.
|
I also like to store things in glass jars. I really enjoyed seeing your stuff.

Great job! I also love the Glass containers, have a few vintage Ball containers with the hinged lids. One is quite large and the notions I have in there right now always get lost in the bottom. I'm re-purposing this for spools of thread and moving the other items into sorting boxes for easier retrieval. We also have a very large (basically wall-to-wall) window to our enclosed garden room right off the living room and my sewing machine is there because I also love to listen to the birds as I sew. Nice overstuffed couch to sit on as I plan my project, great new sewing station and the glass jars look so pretty from the window, full of my favorite colors. I just need to buy more jars! thanks for sharing your idea!

Love love love it all! Great job!
