Pictures of my "new" quilting room

9 Attachment(s)
My DH just bought a laptop and moved out of the quilting/computer room... it's all mine. Aside from the treadmill that I use frequently, the entire spare bedroom is for quilting.

First picture is my pincushion and scrap catcher made by DRickman. It is my favorite thing in my quilting room. I use it constantly.
Second picture is my current/ongoing project boxes
Third picture (don't laugh too hard) is my thread box on the left and my entire fabric stash on the right.
Seventh picture is my version of the Bonnie Hunter scrap storage.

Getting a quilt LAQ'ed by dmyers and it will go above my desk. I am in the planning stages for a quilt above the sewing machine...

Hope this give some others ideas on how to organize their space.

Wow, so organized! I envy you.

sewbeadit 04-18-2012 11:24 PM

Great space, you will have fun having that for your quilt room.

Wow! Are you a military spouse? I remember those days. I kept my "crafts stash" defined to 3 storage boxes so I knew I could take it no matter where we were assigned. I'd do projects based on gifting them at Christmas.

How do you like your sewing table? How expensive was it? I have an similar old one from an estate sale.

Your enthusiasm and happiness is reflected in your sewing room! Enjoy every moment!

Your room looks great. Where did you get the sewing machine table. It looks like a great space saver - and space I do not have a lot of so that table might be what I could use. Thanks.

The table is a SEW EZI table. I just got it about 2 weeks ago. I had purchased a gidget table and disliked it for 3 reasons: it shook, it did not come with an insert to go around my machine and the hole was not cut to fit my machine, and finally, it was difficult to get to the bobbin area to clean it b/c of the set up of the table. I am going to sell the gidget table at a garage sale in June.

I LOVE the new sew ezi table. it came with a custom insert for my machine and I also got the clear insert to use for applique (remove the machine and machine insert, add the applique insert and a light source to trace). there is also an insert to turn the table into a cutting table. It is great especially if you have a smaller space. There is also an extension table that is available. This table does NOT shake when I sew and the insert fits perfectly. It is also very light. I wish I had bought it originally but I didn't know about it. Oh... and the table folds up easily, has wheels attached to roll it and comes with a travel bag to slide it into.

You have wonderful organization skills! I love the way your drawers are organized.

I especially like the 'Shrek' touch in your room. :)

Nice room and sewing space.

sweetana3 04-20-2012 03:17 AM

I am going to check out those tables while in Paducah. I am tired of having my machine too high and cracked the extension table because I was resting my hands on it while stitching. It will fit next to my small folding table and ironing board to make a U shape for my tiny sewing room.

Daisydoodle 04-20-2012 06:02 AM

Wonderful, so glad you have the whole room to spread out! Great job!!

mighty 04-20-2012 09:47 AM

Treasureit 04-20-2012 06:31 PM

Do you use that Shrek chair to rest? lol

d.rickman 04-21-2012 09:03 AM

You are very organized, I'm so impressed...now all you need is the "Vanishing Design Wall" - it is a shelf with a roll up blind that you can pull down when you need it, and then roll back up - and the best part is you can leave your quilting
pieces on it when you roll it up and they stay!

I just joined "Craftsy.com" yesterday, and they sent me back a notice that I can take one of the quilting courses for $25, which is half price, so just started that yesterday, and then I can quilt my own quilts....you might want to come join me...The best part about that website, is you can go into the course anytime 24 -7days per week, so it is available when you can watch the video and sew along if you like.

I keep my sample pieces and make them into hot mats by just adding a square of thinsolate, put on a binding and give them away. I also visited the Hospital thrift shop and picked up a couple of sheets that were almost new for $4 and
use those as my practice squares.

I also took a quilting class where I live, and will email you the directions for a sample wallhanging. Thanks for letting me know that you got your room together - so proud of you - good job.

Oh I forgot to ask, what happened to the pincushion part of your scrap catcher - looks like the silica sand settled in its' travelling to you - never thought that would happen - you might be able to hand stitch all around and along the bottom it to tighten it up - so sorry about that.

Hugs to you my friend.

hopetoquilt 04-21-2012 05:34 PM

drickman...
I filled the pincushion part. I probably underfilled it but it works perfectly and I love it. I wouldn't change anything about it. I just made (13) 12.5 inch blocks for an exchange and used it like crazy to pin. I don't usually pin when doing piecing but when doing an exchange, i felt I should. My accuracy is so much better I will be pinning from now on.

Enjoy your "new" space.
I'm sure you will find many happy hours in there.

Love the desk. I am currently into painting some old pieces of furniture and thought this would be lovely in an Heirloom white. Oh me....
