Just a thought. You could paint the entire box with a coat or two of polyurethane. That would protect your fabric from the wood. They make a non-oil based poly that dries quickly and easy clean up. I'd use a throw away brush and make a quick job of it.

I like what you've done with the boxes.

Great way to use those boxes! They look nice on the wall.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. A few folks seem to be concerned about the quilts touching the wood. I put plastic sheeting on all sides and the back. Basically I made a plastic bag of a flat plastic sheet then tacked the bag in to the boxes. Because I was a little nervous about the fabric touching the plastic, I then did the same thing with muslin. The plastic and muslin do not show in the photos because I took them before putting the plastic and muslin into the boxes.

Might be worth checking in to. Very cute idea though........

I had a bad experience of storing crocheted items in a cedar chest. Years later, I removed them and saw that there were dark brown stains on areas that were touching the actual cedar wood. Haven't been able to remove the stains.

They look great, I have done the same thing, saved boxes, I just used one today in my room and the others I plan on using too to put jars of buttons in on top of a shelf. I also use glass jars for buttons and old coffee cans to hold misc. stuff in a shelf. I like old stuff too.
