Reorganizing Part I finished

5 Attachment(s)
A few weeks back I decided to get the magazine boards that so many on this site have used. I am really happy with the results. My DH thinks my "cave" looks like a mini quilt shop. I have attached before and after pictures. Next to be organized is my book shelf area. The fabric that is folded on the shelf are half yard or smaller cuts. Will use them for backing of small wall hangings or scrap quilt. Thanks for looking.

Yes, I have found that I am using fabric I had forgotten about. In fact, I already made four placemats and three baby bibs.

rebeljane 04-17-2013 08:12 AM

Can I come shopping?

janetter 04-17-2013 10:49 AM

I think DH is right and what a beautiful lil quilt shop it is :)

What a difference. You wouldn't even know it was the same space.

Debbie C 04-18-2013 03:53 AM

Sophie, your 'new' quilt space does look like a quilt store! You have to be so proud of your efforts - it looks amazing!!

paulswalia 04-18-2013 03:54 AM

I bet it was a lot of work, but your stash will be so much more useable! Good for you! Looks wonderful.

Thanks for all your kind words about my reorganization. Encourages me to go on the my next section - the books!

Emma S 04-18-2013 07:18 AM

Wow! Love before and after pictures. What a difference. It amazes me how much easier it is to design and really make use of a stash when it is organized like that.

Yes, in the short time I have had it finished I have been able to put fabric together so much faster and easier. And I found some kits that I put in my kit drawer that I forgot I had. Hope to be much more productive.

That must have taken a while! Looks great.

Surprisingly, it only took me a couple nights after work and one weekend. I think I was motivated because everytime I did one color I was anxious to get on to the next color because I liked the way it was looking.

Those magazine backs are nice. I use those for at least a yard or more. If smaller I have those on a different shelf, laying on theirs sides but still wrapped around backs. Strips go into file boxes or clear shoe boxes with label colors marked. Still getting rid of stuff DH doesn't need to make room for my needs. His is junk. The sewing room is open and when I asked him if he could move or if I could throw it out, I received no answer. I took that as a yes and did what I wanted and threw things out. I have the magazine backs and they really keep things looking nice. Hitting some estate sales and other fabric sales to build my stash. Need more thread also.

Has your fabric storage space been increased because of the vertical placement of your fabric? Looks so neat and organized. Thanks for sharing.

Dordee 04-18-2013 09:37 AM

I do feel like I have space for more fabric. Oh darn, looks like I will have to go shopping. LOL Some of the space I gained is due to the fact that I got rid of some fabric and cut others into tumbler shapes for a scrap quilt. Prior to the reorganizing, I had oddly folded single pre-quilted fabric I have since used for the backing of placemats and some flannel I have used for the backing of baby bibs. I find having gone thru my fabric I now know better what I have - especially odd fabric for a quick project.

What a difference some boards make. It looks so neat and sure must be easier to locate what you are searching for when you go "a search'en".

Grace MooreLinker 04-19-2013 09:27 AM

Great job, wish I had room to do that.

JanieH 04-19-2013 10:33 AM

I agree with your husband - looks like a great store to come in and browse. I think I am going to have to break down and do the same with my fabric. I am so envious of yours and others who have shown theirs.

nannyrick 04-19-2013 11:05 AM

You have done a wonderful job!!! Looks great.

Sophie2 04-19-2013 11:09 AM

Thank you all for the positive comments. I am so glad I did it. I had been on the "fence" for awhile.
