Having read so much about these boards I went to the nearest comic book store to purchase or at least look into them and I have to admit I don't understand how it is that everyone is managing to use them since they don't seem even as thick as cardstock. The owner of the store didn't understand either he said he agreed that the product is too flimsy. He had two different sizes as well as thicknesses but even those I thought were not as good as using the fabric bolts. I do have some fabric that I have had on organizers for a few years but I also have alot that I have on bolts from the fabric store, also I found that in order to save some space if I cut the bolt in half straight down the length of it even that is stronger than those comic book boards. Another thing I had done was I had some foam board that I had bought years ago and I cut them down to the sizes of my organizers and used them also quite sturdy. Of course everyone has their own opinion on all these things but this is just mine.

Using the comic boards is the ruler folding method except you use the comic board and leave it in there.

I found I was able to 'let go' of a number of pieces because I just wasn't 'doing that kind any longer'. It was happily accepted by another quilter friend.

I think they're 24 cardstock...whatever that is. It just gives the folded fabric a little more firmness when handling it. Makes it's stand up on the shelf better too.

I don't think the store owner would understand ... unless he's a quilter! :)

I agree though...we should do what's best for each of us in our own circumstances.

You can easily remove a fabric within a stack of ruler folded fabrics by sliding the ruler in the pile above the fabric you want, lifting the pile, removing your choice, placing the ruler back and sliding it out.

if i put mine on boards, it would take up too much space. i have mine ruler-folded on plastic shelves in a closet. they are organized by color.

I had mine ruler folded in baskets according to color and I found it takes up way less space on the boards and its not falling over. I'm one of those that would just grab and pull . And even with it in baskets things got shoved back in and not nicely. This is ideal for me , if I pull some and use a bit the board is right there and I Have to fold it back on.

How thick are the comic book boards? Do they come in different widths?

I have a question - If most quilting fabric is 45" wide - if folded into quarters - that would make the fabric approx 11" wide - does the fabric hang off the board - if the boards you are all talking about are 10" tall ????

The boards that I'm using are 8-1/2" X 11". They are the magazine size boards. For fabric less than a 1/2 yard, I have cut the boards in half.

To anwer your last question first. Yes it does but it doesn't seem to cause problems. I made sure my extra was at the top so it wouldn't fold under.
As far as thickness. Shirt cardboard maybe a little thicker. And they do come in different widths.

It doesn't sound like it works and not everyone will like them but I love the way in cut down on the space I needed and how neat, finally, my fabric looks. Its exactly what I needed.I tried the different foldings and storage in baskets and on shelves. I could never keep it all neat.

What are comic boards? Are they the little white (sort of) plastic boards that the quilt shops sometimes sell?
