Update on Re-do of craft room

5 Attachment(s)
I couldn't figure out how to update the old thread (technically challenged), but was excited to share the new stuff. Here it is, one day later and my DH followed through on his promise to help me with the heavy work. He moved the old bed to the attic and took the bigger one out of the craft room and put it in the guest room. Then he moved the temporary table into the room for my sewing machine & stuff. I spent all day yesterday getting it cleaned up and reorganized. Fabrics are in the bin and in other bins in the attic, but will get organized soon. It's a little bare now, but I'm sure it will fill up quickly. His only complaint was that it sort of echoes, but once I get a quilt or two up on the walls, that will stop! I'm sending pics of what we got done yesterday. Not much to look at yet, but a much more viable workspace for both of my colorful hobbies! (PS~I hope the photos are not too big . . . I tried to resize them but they still look big to me). :)

Nice looking room, wish mine looked like yours:)

Whigrose 02-12-2012 07:43 AM

You must be so excited! We're all doing the happy dance for you.

Now you have an excuse (or reason) to make quilts - gotta loose the echo factor. Geez, things a girl's gotta do <giggle>

best,
d

Really Really like your room. I hope to have mine redone this summer, will have to be upstairs. Will see if I can get my dear son in law to redo the steps. He did all the remodeling work in their home after the flood of 2011 in Minot. He did a wonderful job. I wish my DH would build the addition onto the house that he promised me and then I wouldn't have to climb the stairs. It could all be brought down and in one room with plenty of space for my machines and their tables etc. I think I might even think about applying for a VA loan to pay for the additon if I could get someone to build it.

LOL! It is a sandblasting box. Now you know. I also create stained glass art & a few years ago my DH gave it to me to help contain the glass dust created by grinding the edges of the glass. I can also do sandblasting on glass, but I have to take it outside for that.

Btw, my room is on the second floor, since I took over the unused bedroom when I moved in, for my glass art & sewing machine (my old Singer Slant-O-Matic, 500a, 1963 vintage). :-)

We have the same sewing cabinet. I still love it after all these years.

I purchased that cabinet in 1976 when I bought my Athena 2000 (may it RIP!) The Athena gave up after 24 years of hard service, but the cabinet was too good to get rid of. It now houses my 1963 Singer 500a. Good furniture is irreplaceable! You have good taste! ;-)

Just viewed your sewing room and wanted to tell you how organized it looks. I just moved from TX to KY and sadly only half of my sewing room and supplies were able to come with me.I have to wait until April to go back and get the rest out of storage. You room looks very much like the way I use to have mine. When I get it set up again I will post some photos for you to see. I do embroidery and quilting plus simple sewing and love it. You have a great room, so be proud of it and all the hubby's helping hands.

The only thing I found is that I can't use the spring loaded lowering mechanism. Otherwise, I just propped up the machine in the hole & it works just great.

You have a great work space. Love the peg board for all your goodies to stay organized. Have fun creating in your new room.

Yes, I've been working with glass for about 12 years now and that is what the other space is for. A friend built all that for me years ago and when I moved into this house (nearly 9 years ago, now), I brought it with me. My DH set everything up just as I wanted it. Now all my quilting stuff is in there too, but enough separated that I don't have to worry about glass particles getting on the fabrics. I'll post a couple photos of my glass work on the section of the board that is anything but quilting. Thanks for asking! Wendy

That's a very nice room. Looks like you have plenty of space. Your Rocketeer and cabinet are lovely.

SingerSewer 02-18-2012 04:37 AM

Your craft room is great. I love the cabinet housing your Singer and the sewing chair at the white table is great. Looks retro!

Country1 02-20-2012 08:54 AM

Very organized!... You have a beautiful room. So happy for you!

kbonafede 02-20-2012 10:41 AM

Oh!! Isn't it amazing how much labor and energy it takes to do every single thing?! And the domino effect is never ending....so that when we see photos of your wonderful space, we don't see all of the moving of beds, going to the attic multiple times.....energy, energy, energy..... I think this is fabulous. You will enjoy this space so much.....congratulations!
