I have this sewing table. I really want a cabinet with a hole, so my machine sets flush with the top of the table. Should I invest in another table? Or could I alter this one?

I would alter this one if you think it will be the correct height for you. If you are sitting in your chair, your feet are flush on the floor, your machine should be level with your elbows bent like you are sewing. That is to releive any back or leg pain while you are sewing. I am just 4'10" since I lost 2" so I will be adjusting mine soon. I actually cut off the legs to my one machine that I have at the cottage and I cannot believe the difference. I can go a mile a minute if my boot petal would stay in place. So I am building something for that. I am tired of the stuff under the petal on the hardwood floors.
It's got to go. I would use that beautiful cabinet, have someone put a hole in it with a brace to hold the machine. Turn the machine on it's side and measure the bottom, then adjust the size so you have a lip for the machine to sit on. You can then glue some felt on the lip so it will be more sound for the machine and the machine will not rattle. Good luck!

​I currently have my machine sitting on a arbourite ( sp) kitchen table. It works well but I want a surface flush with my machine too. My son is going to measure and cut a hole in some finished wood and I will sit it on top of the table. He will fasten a couple of wooden blocks on both ends underneath it to bring it even with my machine.

I had one of these tables before I expanded my sewing room. Really nice how it all folds up and away if needed. I gifted mine to a friend who moved to a small apartment.
However, as the cabinet is actually a fibre or particle board covered with some sort of melamine like finish, I am not sure if the "wood" would hold the weight of a shelf supporting the machine? Perhaps someone with more knowledge of woodworking and engineering could answer?
It would be a shame to see you modify the cabinet and then have it not support the weight or vibration.

I have a sew-ezi table. I love it and they make a custom cut insert for your machine. If you change machines, you can buy a new insert. Sturdy, comfortable, light weight and well constructed. I would highly recommend it.

The table you are looking at does not have anywhere for you to put your legs under. That would make swing awkward or uncomfortable for me.

I found that exact cabinet last month at a thrift store for 50.00. I love it except it could use a hole for the machine to sit in. The price was right so I will not complain too much..

I wouldn't buy it. Not enough room behind the machine for when I really get going...especially when I quilt. I agree tho...sewing table needs a well.

Have a carpenter look at it and see if it can be done. Looks like you would have to get rid of or move that top shelf drawer. Go look at other sewing cabinets and take your camera/phone and get photos to see if it can be altered.

I found an empty machine cabinet and had a friend put a false bottom in it, measured to allow the bed of the machine to sit flush. He made a template of the machine so it just fits wonderfully into its new home!

beautiful cabinet at a great price. I would buy a second if you have the $$ and room.
