I am a new memeber to this blog. I noticed a discussion about taking sewing machines on a camping trip. I am going camping in a pop-up for 3 weeks. Would love to take my machine. Has anyone ever taken their machine in a pop-up? I noticed no one took it in a tent. My main concern is condensation. Of course when I am not using the machine, it will be in my pop-up. We are dry inside, but it is cool in the morning (Maine) and there is some general dampness. I am leaving this Friday Aug. 9, 2013. I hope someone sees my question and will take time to respond. Thanks.

Welcome to the group. I can't help with your question as my DH said he did all the camping he wanted in the army.

We only have a week at the cottage so I just bring Redwork. We wouldn't have room to haul my machine and supplies in the car also.

If it's just general morning dampness I don't think I'd be overly concerned. My primary concern would be if it's a computerized machine and it's not well packed for travel. Have fun on your trip!

Trindles, we camp a lot in a Class C rv. I not only take a sewing machine when we camp, I have a small Singer (practical stitches only) that is dedicated to the rv. This machine does go to classes with me from time to time, but it's home is the rv.

My only "heads up" is to make sure any machine you travel with is as well protected from vibration and other camper engendered shaking and motion as possible.

I am a pop up camper and have taken my machine with me so my hubby can fish and I quilt. It works out great for us. I have done it a number of times in different weather conditions and will continue to do it I the future. He cleans his what he catches and sew what I cut. I am probably the only one who takes an iron camping, but I believe in crisp seams. Try it once and you will do it again... It's your own sewing retreat.... Happy sewing...

I don't know if this will be bad for your machine, but it does seem enjoyable. If you have a machine that is not computerized I would definitely bring it.

It depends on where we are camping and who else will be there. If we're in a full service campground that works. If we are wilderness camping my husband bought me a tiny little sewing machine from Walmart for something like $20. It only sews a straight stitch and it's pretty loud. Like you wouldn't want to sew if someone was trying to sleep. hahaha If we are with a bunch of people, then I would not take it because friendship means more to me than sewing. But if we go along, heck yeah, I do it. Have fun. It runs either by electricity or battery. In fact it's so small I should just leave it in the trailer all the time.

I have a fw it goes on all camp trips in the pop up. Usually have several quilts cut out in small containers one quilt per cont. I really like to do the double nine patch. Quick and simple and always have iron and board and even starch and all the notions I need. If not I usually can find. A wal mart or Q shop it's more about the relaxation and peace and quite. Don't get me wrong that. Tv and PCM ain't to far away. By the way I'm a guy and I do like to hunt fish and all types of outside stuff. I live near Branson. mo so I stay busy and still find time to sew. Miss BB (feather weight's name) never had any problem. Not even with the wife. We both love camping and the out doors.
