Just a reminder: the Empire Quilt Fest is October 15 and 16, at Shenendehowa High School East in Clifton Park.

It's a judged show, with over 200 quilts, more than 20 vendors, and lots of food!! Luncheon lectures are planned for Saturday and Sunday, and novelist Marie Bostwick will be at the show on Saturday from 10-3, selling signed copies of her books.

For complete, up-to-date information, visit our website at www.empirequiltfest.org.

I hope to see you there!

Janet, will you have a quilt entered? I've got two! My hand quilted mariner's compass and a machine quilted one.

I can't wait. Still have to wash and block the compass quilt.

Hi Feline,

I'm so glad to hear you entered, and I'm really looking forward to seeing your quilts.

I entered two. One is the red and white quilt I made for my step son and his wife, the other is an uncompleted (still!) challenge quilt from 2007.

I decided to take the challenge seriously then, and did everything by machine. It has definitely been a teaching tool, but a lot of fun. It incorporates the original 2007 challenge fabric, and lots of scraps, so I entered it as a theme quilt.

The Dutchess Heritage show is this weekend, and I'd love to go, but I'll be spending my 3 day weekend machine quilting, binding and sleeving this quilt. Thank goodness for size limitations - it's small enough I might be able to get 'er done.

I will be there both days, so I hope we can meet up.

Miss Sandra, I will do my best to keep this topic near the top!!

It's a great show, and now you know two board members will be showing their quilts. We'd love to see you there.

I almost pulled the compass. I had some seams come out on one of the rays on the center compass. In my efforts to repair the seam, the fabric frayed on me so badly it was beyond repair. I was devastated. My only solution was to stitch a new ray point and applique it over the damaged area. I completely, utterly suck at applique. The fix is very visible and I am sure the judges critque on it will be scathing. But that is ok. I really want the review on all the other aspects of it so I know where I am lacking and where I am not. We are our own worst critics so an unbiased opinion from a stranger is the best way I know to improve what needs it and give a boost to my confidence in the areas where I don't need it (if there are any! )

The quilt is a gift for my brother and he totally loves it but he has not seen the awful patch job yet.

I'm glad you didn't pull it. I think your hand quilting designs are very creative, and besides, there usually aren't enough hand quilted items in the show for me to drool over.

In my experience, the judge's critique is usually kinder than my own. I try not to give guided tours of my errors anymore because no one else notices them.

There should be lots of eye candy. The last show had some amazing quilts with machine quilting from the local longarmers - they took my breath away!

I managed to finish my theme quilt in time for the show, so the heat is off me now.

The quilts are coming in, and judging is tomorrow - I'm excited! :)
