BF and I are taking a road trip, just us two girls, to Muscatine. We are both stitchers and knitters, and are seeking names of shops we must stop in on the way. We will be traveling on I-94, I-80, I-280, Us 61 and IA-38 on our way from Kalamazoo, MI through Indiana, Illinois, and into Iowa. We are willing to take some reasonable detours, and are not on a tight schedule. Can anyone recommend some "must stop" places? Thanks! Penny (pgthom in Kalamazoo)

Well, you need to go to stop at Stitchin Time in South Bend. Staff is friendly and they have soooo many wonderful fabrics!! If you are around Roanoke, IN then you have to stop at Friends and Fabric on 2nd street. I've posted a couple of times about this store here on QB. It is the most fantastic LQS that I have ever been in! Deb the owner and the other workers are super friendly and the fabric selection is out of this world!!!

Thanks for those suggestions! Going to collect them all, then get out the map and make some notes. Take care! Penny

I love ericas in south bend,in. I have never had a good experience with stitch in time. The one lady that works there is pretty friendly but the owner nhas nnever been very friendly to me. Ericas staff is great and they have so much , and is a clean shop. cant say that for some .

Hmm, interesting to have such opposite experiences. I have that with a LQS. Lots of people rave about it, but I find the staff aloof and not much fun to browse in there. They make me feel guilty if I don't buy a lot. Will see where the road takes us! Thanks....Penny

Once you get to Muscatine, you will need to travel to Kalona, there are a few quilt shops there. The people are so nice and friendly, certainly worth the time. It is located in Amish/Mennonite country. West Branch has a newer quilt shop that just opened. I'm sure that Don SewiMan can join in and help you, he lives in Muscatine.

If you want to add more miles, you might want to go to the Amana Colonies. There are 2-3 shops in Main Amana (#151)and 1 in So. Amana on U.S. 6. Also have a small shop in Marengo, the Sewing Basket. They have been open a short time and really don't have much inventory as yet, but oh, so, pretty at only $5 yd. Have fun and drive carefully. Marge L.

I only live about 30 miles south of Muscatine, Iowa. Go to Crazy Girl's Yarn Shop for yarn and to Neal's Sewing Center for fabric. Both are on second street. Not much else to recommend in Muscatine.
