Is anyone going to the Houston Quilt Festival in November? I received my class catalog Saturday. Wow are there a bunch to choose from. I have never been to this show and am really getting excited about the upcoming trip.

I plan to attend. Our son and his family live in the area and it is a great time to visit the kids and the quilt show!
Bring good walking shoes!!

OMG!!! Take your camera and comfortable shoes. You will not believe everything you will see (quilts, vendors, people etc). You will have a great time.

I attended every year during the 1990s while I lived in TX; we took a hotel suite and stayed for a week; took lots classes, did the show, served as volunteers on the show floor and in the classes, walked our legs off and met fabulous people.

You will not believe how HUGE it all is -- three floors of an enormous convention center -- and how exhausted you will feel at the end of a day! I could not do it any more and miss it terribly.

We developed some invaluable tips:
1. ALWAYS valet park if you have your own car, it'll be the best $$ spent at the end of a day.
2. Carry a small/lightweight purse (beltpack for me) and a rolling bag for purchases if you expect to 'go bigtime'.
Use the checking/shipping services upstairs if you get loaded down.
3. If you have your own car and stay away from the downtown area in a hotel, plan to go out to eat and have a drink....it'll help you sleep better.
4. Take the shuttle bus to a restaurant in one of the on-the-bus-line hotels for lunch for a change of scenery break and lower cost than in in the convention center.
5. If you are with friends, wear a similar color t-shirt, carry cells, arrange time and meeting places BEFORE getting separated from each other!
6. Use the restroom BEFORE you really need it as they are far between, very crowded, and the front ones are downstairs!
7. Consider going upstairs to take a brief rest where you can lie on the floor and put your legs up on the benches.
8. Thoroughly study the floor plan before starting out.

Enjoy!!! It's the adventure of a lifetime!

Thanks Jan,
I will pass this on to my friend in Parsons. I'll be going there and then we fly out of Tulsa. She has friends she works with that talked us in to going with them this year. They have gone 14 years in a row. I'm thinking once will be enough for Kay and I as this will be a bit expensive.
