The Maine Quilt Show will be held July 29 through July 31 at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, ME. It's always a fun show to take in so I thought I'd alert folks in case they can get-a-way to Maine for a weekend.

I was born in Bangor Maine and I love the state.
I married an air-force guy and came to the mid west.
I hated it here for the first ten years and than got used to it. We always came back in August to Bar Harbor and to get our fill of lobster. I know where Augusta is and would
love to come but I have a back that says I can't travel.
So I wish you well and all the others that will be there.
I envy you. I am retired now from retail and enjoy the
quilting and am still learning new techniques. I'd love to
be at the ocean this time of year. Hope you will take some
pictures to share.

I reside in ME and am skeptical of how many quilts will be at the show this year because of the great restrictions they have imposed for this show. If you are going to hang a quilt at the show, you need written permission from the quilt pattern creator due to copyright laws. The cloth is sometimes copyrighted, the patterns are copyrighted, the pantos are copyrighted, etc. so where does this madness end? This restriction is for every quilt, not just the ones being judged. I know it deterred me from showing any. Some you just don't even know who to give credit to - perhaps a UFO that you have laying around that was from a magazine - oh but which one and what date - etc.

In looking at the recent catalog from Keepsake Quilting, it seems copyright doesn't hold much water anyways. I found four in that catalog that were very, very similar to other quilt patterns I've used/seen in the past. Only changing one minor thing per block, with the overall appearance of the quilt being the same. So really, there is not much protection anyway.

Getting back to the show, I am taking a class with Bonnie McAffrey and going to the Champagne Preview.

Just so you can put your mind at ease, the Maine Quilt Show will have just as many quilts this year as last year.
I am involved with the show and can tell you that most people had no trouble getting the permission they needed to show their quilts. This was done to protect everyone and to make sure the show will continue on. It's unfortunately a necessary part of our lives today to protect against lawsuits.
It will be a wonderful show as always and you'll be viewing just as many quilts.

I hadn't looked up the rules for this year as i'm only here in the summers now. And sadly the guilds near here don't meet in July.

I intend to get to the show and my new DH has never seen any quilts except mine so it will be an eye opener for him.

Right now I'm on the mid coast

I'll be in and around the Purple Moose booth on Friday and Saturday. My friend Terri doesn't know my screen name but I'll tell her so that if any of you drop by, maybe we can meet up along the way. I enjoyed this show so much last year...I can't wait! I think her booth is the back room this year. Stop by for a purple moose kiss! (chocolate, of course)...

I was in that booth today. In fact I purchased some thread there. Maybe I bought it from you?
I'll be around again tomorrow. Should I stop by?
