Hello to all my u.s. quilting sisters. My daughter is currently on holidays in New York and has offered to bring me back some quilting fabric. Would anyone know of a good quilt shop in New York that she could go to. Thanks for your help

The City Quilter! It's a bit pricey but very friendly and loads of stuff. You can google them and get an idea of some of the fabric they have to offer.

On a trip to new York in April, I went to city quilter. and loved it. I bought some fabric and a couple of notions. It is pricey, compared to most of US prices, but I think I am right in presuming that fabric is a little on the high side in Aus, I know it is more expensive here in UK than the US. It is a lovely store,and the people also were lovely. Well worth a visit. There is also an area I tink is called the Garment District, which has lots of fabric stores of all kinds. I remember a few years ago I was there and trudged round the area. Although there wern't any quilting shops, a lot of the stores did hav some quilting fabrics at really good prices. In fact it was 9 years ago and I have just started on a project using one of the fabrics I bought there and it brougt back memories of my trip.

I also visit the garment district but it's really hit or miss, I think to go there you have to know exactly what you want. However it is a huge price difference from a lqs.

Do you know which area (bourogh) in New York your daughter will be in? If Manhattan or Brooklyn, my daughter works in Manhattan and lives in Brooklyn. I did a search for fabric stores and these are in Manhattan

online I read a reveiw of P& S and it seems to be pretty good. There was a fabric discount store in my seach in Brooklyn but I will check with my daughter about the neighborhood, some parts of Brooklyn might not be the best to be in especially if you aren't familiar with the area. The 4 I pasted here are all in Manhattan and should be fine. I will talk to her tomorrow and follow up.

The garment district is usually best for solids, they cater more towards the designers in the area and the FIT (silks, chiffon, and lots of spandex). The customer service is not so great, its really a hit or miss. The City Quilter is def a must see. As far as Brooklyn is concerned I've been to a few and usually take the drive out to Long Island. The Brooklyn locations are so far apart and pricey as well.
