Carribean quilt shops
 

Ill be in San Juan, st. Marten, st. Thomas, and a couple of other ports.

Any LQS help would be greatfull as I'm googling with not much luck.

did you try fabric or yardage rather than quilt as key word? also piecing or patchwork......do not know the terms used by french speakers or dutch........may be that the tour co. will have info.

I was told that in warm climates the people don't use quilts like in Michigan or even California. I went to a huge fabric store in Mazatlan, Mexico and they did not have any fabric for quilters.

Ok; I have a friend who now lived in Michigan and I lived there as a child and it gets very cold. Then and now. I also lived outside of San Francisco and it gets really cold there. If you go to the mountains toward Nevada from San Francisco in July you'll see snow even then. I wasn't quilting when I lived in CA and of course not in MI either but they aren't just warm climates; especially not Michigan. Hawaii does quilts; now there is warm. Lived there for 6yrs and loved it.

Ok ladies. I have a good one for you.
My son lives in Florida and wanted an extra warm quilt. Through me for a loop. He asked for a Bisquit quilt which is about the warmest quilt I make. Not wanting to start it and find out that he would not be happy with it I called him and found out that:
He has a water bed and to keep the water cool during the summer he wanted the quilt to keep the COOL in the water.
I have made the quilt and my son told me that it is perfect. His water bed is always cool when he goes to bed now that he has his quilt.
Quilts are not just for Warm any more.

I was in St martin in Nov, went to several fabric shops, but mostly found drapery weight fabric, a little silk, but no cottons for quilting. I searched the whole island!

I have been to St. Maarten and St. Thomas many times and have never found any fabric shops worth visiting. Like is said before, the fabrics are mostly 100% poly or upholstry weight and nothing exciting at that. Looks like the good ol' US wins in the fabric shop department!

St. Thomas has Fabrics in Motion. I've stopped there the 15 or so times I've been at St. Thomas. It is right off the main street by the water. I believe the Green House Restaurant is on the corner. On that same block is Rosies. That shop is actually right behind Fabrics in Motion. That also has some "craft" items. Seems like I got yarn there one time when I needed something to do on the ship. Pizza Hut is on the "water corner" for Rosies.
San Juan use to have 4 or 5 fabric stores near where the ships dock but last time my husband and I were there they had closed or moved. Didn't find any closeby when I went in Nov. with my kids.

Sounds like a great trip even if you aren't able to find any quilt/fabric shops, have a good time.
