Jane Stickle Quilt

If you are anywhere near Bennington VT this week, along with seeing the Bennington Quiltfest, stop in at the Bennington Museum to see the Jane Stickle quilt in person. It is only displayed this time of year, and is soooo amazing!! I felt in the presence of greatness when I got to see it last year.

I finished my Dear Jane in 2004 and I hope someday to see the original. Were you aware that Jane Stickle did not have a grave marker and many ladies who came together after the Dear Jane book was published donated to a marker for her. If you go to the Bennington Museum ask them where Jane is buried. Many Janiacs, as we are called, leave a piece of fabric at her grave sight. I think there have been over 100,000 books sold.

I've seen the real DJ in person and it is even more beautiful in person than in pictures. I don't know who is in this picture but she must have been there when I was taking the shot.

Wow, I didn't know that. Kudos to you for making it - way too complex for my little brain and fingers. Hope you get there. Presentation is in low light, and you see it with no glass in front of it. So awesome! Love your name, by the way. You must have had a creative mother.

Here I am with my mother viewing the real Dear Jane quilt. IT is more beautiful in person than I expected. It was a real thrill to see it.

NYgal, you were there! Isn't it wonderful? Thanks for the pic!

If you get to see the quilt drive a little more and go to the Shaftsbury cemetary and see Jane's headstone..here it is. I've seen it three times and each time there is fabric left on her headstone with little rocks holding fabric down. Very sweet touch.

you would not believe all the beautiful fabrics in the orginal jane quilt. AND it is not faded or worn at all. it looks brand new, except for several age discolorations, and they are minimal. Personally i don't believe oxi clean would hurt it at all. and sooooo many different gorg. colors and prints. very vivid. so amazed she had acsese to so many. she must have swaped and bartered her little heart out.

I just got back from the Bennington Quilt Show. It was very nice. I saw two quilts that I really LOVED there. One was for sale for $1,000.00. It was beautifully quilted! I stopped at the vendors booths but the only things I saw that I really wanted were back issues of Quilter's Newsletter magazine. They were selling them in bags of 7 issues for one dollar! I bought 28 back issues!
