Looking for a Quilting friend!! (Seattle)

I'm looking for a quilting friend who is in my 'general' age bracket and lives somewhat near where I do. We can gush over fabric, discuss projects we will never start or start and never finish!! Spend too much money on crafts, and go to art/craft fairs together. I hope I'm not dreaming and that you exist!!!!!!

I'm 28 and live in Edmonds, WA.

Is this you or your daughter????

Are there any guilds in your area? You might consider joining, I bet you'll find people in your age group, especially if it's a branch of the Modern Quilt Guild. Also check with your local quilt shops, ask if the employees and owners know of any informal groups that meet. One LQS owner in my area opens the classroom for groups to meet, chat, and sew for free.

Edited to add: I searched the googles and found this:

And, if you don't find a group or guild, why not start your own? :) Post flyers in the quilt shops and fabric stores, hold a couple of meetings at the local library or community center.

Good luck!

Thanks, that is really close to me. This community on the whole tends to be a little on the older side though :(. I've attended a couple of classes at local shops and the participants were all in their 60s. I have an excellent time but haven't really been able to translate that into friend status. I also work till 730 so I'm not able to go but could try to take time off.

Okay, how about the Seattle branch of the Modern Quilt Guild? I guarantee there will be plenty of young people there, and that seems fairly close. http://seattlemodernquiltguild.shutterfly.com/

I understand how you feel, at 43 I am one of the youngest members of my group, but over the years I have grown very close to these quilters and love them like sisters. I no longer see them as a bunch of little old ladies, but more as my very dear friends, and at times have been very thankful and grateful for their advice since they've been there, done that.

Give it a chance and time, and you will find your home.

I met a friend through this board who lives really close to me and we decided to join the same guild. We are 40 and among the youngest in the guild. That being said, we made lots of friends through the guild. We went on a guild retreat and honestly I did not feel the age being a factor at all. We had a blast, especially when we sat down with a glass of vine at 2:00 am after burning the midnight oil and quilting for 16 hours straight. But, I do understand what you mean. Do look up a modern quilt guild in your area. That may be a good place to start, or make a convert out of a sewing challenged friend :)

I know how you feel. I have belonged to a Quilt group for 3 years and still have not made close friends. It is very sad. Hope you find someone.

I'm 48 have been quilting for awhile and live in Poulsbo close to Kingston ferry. I quilt with ladies at my church and if you dont mind riding the Kingston/ Edmonds ferry we would love to have you join us. I am one of the youngest quilters. We get together the 1st and 3rd Saturday every month.

I have belonged to a quilt guild for 10 years. In fact I have belonged to three guilds. I gave two up, I really did not fit into them All three guilds have a vast range of age groups. I know we have had high school students and college students, and we also have ladies that are in nursing homes, that need rides to our meeting, guess who picks them up and takes them home. yep. Hope you find a guild or group that makes you feel like you are at home.
